Help chooseing a character!

My school is getting ready to do Fiddler On The Roof! This is my will be my third high school musical production. I have never really had the guts to go for a lead role because they were always given to the seniors... but now I'm the senior and I want the perfect role because it's my last year. So, i'll tell you a bit about myself. In the previous musicals I have played:
Agatha - Guys and Dolls, and Minnie - West Side Story. Not really important roles but like I said... I never had the guts to go for a lead. I'm more into acting then I am singing, I just get nervous about singing infront of people but if I get a good role maybe I can get past that. I am an okay dancer. I am 5'8, I have brown hair and fair skin. Oh and I would really like to have comic role. I don't really care if it's a "lead, lead"... just as long as I have quite a few lines and a sub-role would be nice too. Please give me any suggestions, I'd really apprciate it. Very Happy

If you want a good comic supporting role without much solo singing, go for Yente, the matchmaker. She's a meddling old woman who's function in the town is to serve as an intermediary setting up marriages. She's got some really good scenes with Golde, and can totally steal the show when played right. She has a few solo singing lines in some of the group numbers, but it can be done more as "character singing" and doesn't require a great voice.

Another plus is that you probably won't have a whole lot of competition for this role, as I would guess most of the girls in your school will be going for Golde or one of the three elder daughters.

Yente does have her own "lead" song, "The Rumor" - which was cut from the movie. It is available on the CD version of the original Broadway cast album, but was cut from the original LP (and presumably from pre-recorded tapes as well).

Still, Yente doesn't sing much in the rumor. She just gets it started and then sings the last line. It's not really "her number" - so if you don't want a lot of singing, you don't have to worry about it.

Yente is a good comic role. But she doesn't sing to much.
