Ok. Comm theatre is doing it. I am 24 but I look anywhere from 18-24. Petite. Is she supposed to be taller?

I am also a Lyrical coloratura Soprano. But Mezzo is always easy with mics. She only has one solo, correct?

And minnie? I am, looks wise more fit to be Minnie, but my voice out does the role. Thanks aggggain!

Iren sings "Ribbons Down My Back (solo) Elegance (Quartet)
Motherhood March (Quarted) and It Only Takes Moment (duet).

Minnie is in Elegance and Motherhood March.

I played Minnie my junior year of high school and had an absolute blast! She is obviously not the lead and she doesn't have a solo song, but she gets a lot of stage time and is SO much fun to act! Its a great part.

As for Irene, she is a very good part as well. She is definitely to be played by someone in the 25-late 30's age range, whereas Minnie's age is 17. Irene has lots of stage time and sings "Ribbons Down My Back" and "It only takes a Moment." She is most definitely a lyric mezzo.

Thanks!

Depending on the age/look of Barnaby (and how he compares in age/look to Minnie), I think Minnie could be as young as 15 or 16.

Well I think the script says Barnaby is supposed to be 17, as I believe he says "But Cornelius I'm only seventeen!". So a Minnie that young makes perfect sense.

Irene is typically played late 20's, early 30's as she is matched with Cornelius, who I may be wrong, but I think is scripted as being 28 years old, give or take.

Here are some videos from a high school production of Hello Dolly where you can get a feel for Irene and Minnie.

Whenever I've seen Hello Dolly, Irene has been a little bit older than Barnaby. A little being near 5-8 years more.

CVornelius is scripted as 33

Perhaps there are several versions of the script?

In the last production I saw, Cornelius referred to himself a few times during the show as being 28 years old, as did Barnaby say twice he was 17.
I checked with my friend who played Dolly and she assured me that they didn't alter the script in any way for the ages.

I've never done the show and don't care for it all that much and have only seen it one other time before that, so I don't remember what the ages said in the other production were.
Salome

the film used 28 because Michael Crawford was younger.
MsDivaKate

Ah, so perhaps the version that is available for amateur productions now is more closely related to that of the film, in terms of character ages and such?

Thanks to all!!
I sang "I have Dreamed
' and"Bill" and got the role of Irene Malloy (haha I guess it did help that I wore very tall heels with pants too!)

Thanks again!
MsDivaKate

Congratulations!
