Hello, Dolly! Audition SongHi there everybody!
My name is Taylor and I have an audition for Hello, Dolly! approaching January 26th.
I am a sophomore baritone and completely at loss of what to use for a song.
I'd like to use a song from one of my songbooks,
but if this is impossible I can order any sheet music.
Any suggestions for songs would be much appreciated!
I hope for any of the 4 main males, but I know this is a far off chance, I hope most for Barnaby though
My songbooks:
Rent
Thoroughly Modern Millie
Wicked
The Lion King
The Actor's song book/Men's Edition
Jersey Boys
A Chorus Line
Once on This Island
Broadway Deluxe 3rd Edition.
If no songs from those books seem good, then please make a suggestion Thanks again!

I don't know the show very well, but I'd advise against using a few of these right off the bat.
Wicked: Possibly the most overdone musical for auditions lately. Certainly up there.
RENT: Overdone as well.
I'd also say avoid the Lion King, because the Disney themed musicals don't really connect well to many of the other shows that people use.

Your best bet is something from the Actor's Songbook or something in the 3rd Edition of Broadway Deluxe.
You probably don't want to audition with Rent, Millie, Wicked, Lion King, Jersey Boys, or A Chorus Line.
Not that sure about Once on this Island though, but I guess most of the relevant songs of that musical are overdone too.

I agree with the posts above. From Broadway Deluxe 3rd edition have a look at:
A wonderful day like today - the most perfect choice I think out of all songbooks you listed for this audition
They call the wind Maria
Standing on the corner
Make someone happy
Younger than springtime
Once in love with Amy
From Actor's songbook check out:
She touched me
When I'm not near the girl I love

Thanks for the replies guys!
JIJane: Do you think it is a little too... swingy? for the show, though?

"On a wonderful day like today" is exactly the same tempo as "Put on your sunday clothes" from Hello Dolly. It doesn't have to be swingy, some artists have recorded it as a swing number but if you listen to the original it's more straight than swingy.

Jijane: You're right! Thanks for the help I'm going to try it out!
May be a bit too high for me, I'll see :]
Thanks for the help!
