HEELLP!! I need audition songs!!

My community theatre group is doing Seussical the Musical, and the only parts I'll be able to play are
~a who
or
~a bird girl
because I'm so young.
I want to get the part of a bird girl, and I'm a 2nd soprano, but I have NO IDEA what song I should sing for tryouts. Bird girls do a lot of harmony, so that might need some thought too... PLEASE HELP!!!

You should sing a solo, so the harmony thing is out. You should try to sing a song in the same style of the show or a song written by the same composers, in this case, Lyhnn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. They wrote Once on this Island (would work very well. "Waiting For Life" is great.) or maybe even Ragtime.

i don't know if you did the audition already, but if you didn't and are looking into songs from ragtime, it sounds like you would need a younger song, all the songs from ragtime, especially any that are sung by sopranos (evelyn, mother, sarah) are all very old topics. if you are young i would not suggest singing a song written for these adults (one is about a slut, a illigitamate child, and stuff like that)

Yeah... the auditions are on Wednesday, and I still need a song.

Anyway, I'll figure something out...

Given your range, I'd suggest "Everything's Comin' Up Roses" from Gyspy. I sang that recently for my own auditions for Seussical and I'm a Whoville Citizen and a Cadet. So.... the song works XD I sang the last verse, but you could probably go from the line "Now's our inning, stand the world on its ear" and on. That'd be about a minute long.

And the song's really about a mother convincing her daughter to be on stage, but given the context that you'd sing it in, it'd sound like you were trying to persuade someone into having more confidence... which is what Maysie and the Bird Girls do for Gertrude.

So I strongly recommend this song!
