Heavyside LayerThroughout the many productions of Cats there have been many different contraptions to take Grizabella to the Heavyside. Which one is your favorite?
I prefer the staircase that looks somewhat like a claw. To me it's the most dramatic.

Sigh...me too.
I saw it for the first time and wanted to have a fit. As soon as we got out I was like, "They ruined it!" I think it would have been better to at least make it more like a cloud or something...but it looked like a flying saucer! Argh! (But I would've been freaked out, going that high on anything, even a staircase. Props to Claire.)

Actually, I don't think the 'flying saucer' is all that bad. Perhaps it's because the first time I saw CATS was the Fourth National Tour and that is what they used. It's still an inspiring effect (at least for me) with all the 'fog' and lights and with the cats singing their song, etc... I wouldn't exactly say that it is my favorite. Hmm...now that I think about it, I don't think I do have a favorite. I'm not entirely satisfied with the claw and stairs...I suppose it's because Griz has to walk up the steps to get to the Heaviside instead of 'floating/flying' up.

I definitely prefer the staircase... maybe because it reminds me of a wonderful song, "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin.

I saw the flying saucer one... but it wasn't so bad. i kept thinking of it as an elevator instead. =)
and also: What exactly IS the Heavyside layer and what goes on there?! |

I personally think it's like a kitty heaven. You know the cartoon all dogs go to heaven by Don Bluth studios? Perhaps the Heavyside layer is an all kitty heaven, where cats can be at peace, or maybe it is a way to be rencarnated, like a transporter to a new life. You know the mating scene in Cats, where Victoria mates? I wonder if that happens to show who will be carrying the new life? Maybe Heavyside layer is the womb? |

Another Possibility...PICTURE HEREThe "Rainbow Bridge" is a poem that was sent to us from our veterinarian on the death of our cat, Laura. She died of old age and kidney failure, and the vet did all she could to help her. The poem seems to indicate a place where the pet is healed of all injuries and illnesses, and there, they wait in perfect peace and contentment until we appear to take them to heaven. I believe that the Heavyside is similar to this place, and they wait for a chance to be reborn. Nice though that Victoria could be the mother of the one Chosen... very nice. Ask MsJellice to link her fanfiction on the Heavyside...

aww that poem is so sweet! I can relate to that, when my kittens died in my arms, I was so sad. The home I moved into had a wild female, and she bore kittens under our porch. They were all very sick, and I took it apon myself to raise them, well they were too sick to make it, and some of them died. It hurt so badly, but I thought about them frollicking in kitty heaven, and it seemed better. I was able to save two of them, And I have them to this day. THey are the twins below, Lucky and Maru.

Haha, I love it personally, just cuz it's so damn ridiculous. What's the absolute best though, is when it malfunctions and Griz has to just sit on the tire! lol |
