Has anyone noticed this?I suppose it's pretty easy to pick out, but in the finale it hit me: "Goodnight, My Someone" is a slower version of "76 Trombones!" Same exact notes, just a different tempo. Sorry if this has been posted before ...I just thought it was cool!

haha...well, um yes. I suppose I just never really looked for it before. I was playing "Goodnight My Someone" on the piano and I was like this sounds JUST like 76 Trombones so I popped in the movie and the finale makes it quite obvious...

not commonly known, but Willson wrote "Sadder But Wiser Girl" to work in counterpoint with "My White Knight". Barbara Cook has recorded (in concert) a discarded longer version of MWK with a middle section bearing some resemblance to SBWG.

I just listened to that after reading your post and I can hear a resemblance! How crazy!

First time I noticed this was when Harold and Marian are singing the "76 Trombones"/"Goodnight, My Someone" duet. I heard Meredith Willson perform it on someone's website and he said, "I wrote it to the same tune to show that our hero and our heroine had a bit more in common than even they realized." And he started singing "76 Trombones" at the tempo of "Goodnight, My Someone". Then he sped up. It was really neat.
