Harvey JohnsonSo it turns out that I will be playing Harvey Johnson. It sounds like a fun part. I know he sings in "Telephone Hour". Are there any others? How much stage time does Harvey get?

Randolph is always disregarded by Mr. MacAfee. He randomly and unknowingly annoys his father too. He appears in all of the MacAfee home scenes, usually with a couple lines. He also appears on the Ed Sullivan Show. Randolph sings in "A Hymn for a Sunday Evening" and leads the "Kids Reprise". Randolph's age is about anywhere from 6-10 in the show and is relevant by the lines that he says, such as "I've got my pea-shooter pa!" Since he is so young, he does not hang out with the teens, so he is not in "Telephone Hour" or "A Lot of Livin". His vocal part is that of a typical little kid. My school is doing Bye Bye Birdie this year, and our Randolph is a ninth-grader who sings baritone in chorus, but can sing tenor. I don't know why they cast the show like this, but they're adjusting the voice part and harmonies accordingly. So, there's the scoop on Randolph. Hope it helps.

Thanks. That does help. I too am a baritone (but a tenth-grader, not a ninth grader ). I can sing tenor though.

Hey, I'm in tenth grade too! I don't know why that surprises me, lol.

Doesn't surprise me... entirely. Are you in your school's production of Bye Bye Birdie?

Yes. I'm Harvey Johnson. I get to be the student director though, which I am excited about.

So it turns out that I will be playing the same character as you, Harvey Johnson.

That's cool that we're playing the same part. Our first "Telephone Hour" rehearsal was supposed to be today, but our director was sick. I don't know how I'm going to sing Harvey's part in it yet...Are you dissapointed?

No, not really. Should I be? I didn't really want to play Randolph because I don't want to play a little kid after being Wally in Our Town and Friedrich in The Sound of Music.

Harvey's part is ONLY in the Telephone Hour. However, he can be in all of the scenes and songs as the rest of the TEENS of Sweet Apple.

So we had our first read-through today. I think I will be doubling as several other characters also.
