So..I used to love the books. Now they're just okay. The movies are even worse....A musical? WOW....still...I'd go. And don't say you wouldn't! Razz
Luc

I've skimmed through the libretto, and it's not the best... eh, it's not very good at all.
nabla

that's hilarious, i can just imagine the songs now...

Angst the Musical

I made a joke reference about this awhile back in the Batman The musical thread (I think it was that thread) and now I find out it's true, I can't believe it. I love the books and the movies are good but this is going too far, still I already know it will make a lot of money (like Ms. Rowling really needs more money Razz ) Kids will flock to see this like they will for that awful High School Musical garbage even if it is bad.
sopranodespair

I love HP. But a musical? No. Just no.
wicked_boy

Anyone know who the producers are for this?

I know this may be super sad, but I want to audition for Harry. Embarassed

LOL. I would audition too. Wonder which characters would be sopranos?
wicked_boy

I'm serious. I'm a Potter fan and want to originate the role!

Someone, please let me know who the producers are you find out.

sopranodespair, we'll originate the roles of Harry and Hermione.

Very Happy

Well...it sounds better than Shrek: The Musical.
Who knows, this -could- work. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Amber

This could be interesting. I could see a prologue thing with Lily and James going on....Bellatrix Lestrange would have to be featured in some fashion, so I could play her. Smile

Maybe not. I don't think they'll ever musicalize anything more than the first book.

If they're going to do all seven books, the only way to do it IMO is seven separate musicals. Granted, that's what I hope they WILL do, but I won't get my hopes up for it.

BTW, is anyone interested in starting one of those "cast a show with forum people" threads for Harry Potter? There are so many characters in the HP universe that I bet we could keep going for a while.
ConverseSneaker

As bad as this will probably be, I want to play Luna.

Where did you find the libretto? Or are you thinking of that H.M.S. Dumbledore thing that someone posted here once?
wicked_boy

If worked properly HP The Musical could be absolutely amazing...

I said that about LOTR, and it seemed only just to have the "spectacular".

But HP has so much "meat" for an amazing score, effects, plotline, casting.
Monsieur D'Arque

HMS Dumbledore is considered the top musical parody of Harry Potter. However, a straight-up treatment is being planned, but has not been written yet.
mezzo_soprano

Mezzo_soprano as Tonks!!
sopranoopianoo

Ohhhh I would die to be in this.

Even if it wasn't that great.

I would love to be Hermione. Or any random slytherin. Very Happy
candlestickjay

Thats hysterical.

I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or giggle with ecstatic joy!

Whether it was good or not, I think I'd go see it. Come on, who WOULDN'T want to see "live quidditch and big showdowns with Voldemort"?

I'd be there.

I'd audition for it too...only I'm not british. You think they'd count that against me? Lol

*Raises hand* Ginny Weasley? Smile

Those of you who know what I look like, back me up here Smile

^That's ingenious.

I'll be... Cho Chang's brother.

You do! Smile
ConverseSneaker

Well, if we are doing this based on looks then I am Hermione. Don't even try to challenge me on this for I will win Wink
Jennifer Lynn

Well, since other musicals based on famous children's novels, like The Secret Garden, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, and Willy Wonka have all been so ROTTEN... Laughing

Give it a chance. If they have the right composer and lyricist, and take the right tack for adapting it (do NOT try to squeeze all the books together--concentrate on making the best possible musical Sorcerer's Stone and go from there!) this could go places.

(And speaking of The Secret Garden and Harry Potter--after I read the first book in '99, I thought of the song "Lily's Eyes"...and from that moment, I called it on Snape being in love with Lily!)
ConverseSneaker

The Secret Garden? Rotten? I think not! I find it to be one of more brilliant shows in the last twenty years or so. Pure brilliance it is.
Jennifer Lynn

No, no, I was mocking the logic of those who immediately assume that the HP musical will be lousy, by using examples of other musicals based on kids' fantasy that HAVE succeeded.

Looks and personality, I think! We should start a whatsit on it.
