Does anyone know anything about the finale song for Company called "Happily Ever After"? Apparently, it was too pessimistic, so the song was replaced with "Being Alive." Are there lyrics available for the cut song?

Happily Ever After was one of a few attempts to find a finale song for Robert in Company. They included, Someone is Waiting, Multitude of Amys and Marry Me A Little - which was restored to the show but at the end of Act 1.

The lyrics for Happily Ever After have some similarity to the finished product of Being Alive.

The song is available in All Sondheim Vol III.

The song is also in Singer's Musical Theatre Athology, Volume III, Baritone/Bass, I believe.

It had the opposite effect of "Being Alive." It basically says that marriage sucks, so it was taken out and replaced with Being Alive.
