Gypsy audition

Hey! I'm a soprano, early 20's what roles are there in Gypsy that could work for me? I've never seen the show! Also what are some audition suggestions?

You might be good for the older version of either daughter, it depends how they are doing the casting.

This may help:

thanks for the site! any audition song suggestions if I want to audition for Louise?

Hmm, I'm trying to think of some other "ugly duckling" type roles -

Maybe something from Cinderella or Gigi?

Gypsy is my favorite show. I was in it as Dainty June. I feel you would be a good Louise. If you have any questions about diologue, songs, dance, or anything else, please contact me.

I also played Dainty June in Gypsy, and feel as a soprano, you might be good as Louise/Gypsy, but u should have a good Mezzo belt for her later songs. Try singing either "In My Own Little Corner" from Cinderella or maybe "Crime of the Century" from Ragtime.

I'm not familiar with crime of the century, but I do know Your Daddy's Son from ragtime and was considering singing that... definately has a mezzo belt! The other songs I've been practicing are One Boy from Bye Bye Birdie and Out of my Dreams from Oklahoma, but I don't know that they show a good range character-wise... audition is in a couple days... eek!

I'm not sure about the other two, but "Your Daddy's Son" does not represent Louise at all. You might want to read the comments on this page before you use it in an audition:

crap... haha i'm a little out of practice and it's one of the only songs i can still do well and have memorized... any other song suggestions (i don't have sheet music for those two)
Jenem

Well, if you're really stuck, do Out of My Dreams from Oklahoma I guess, but if you can swing it, I would of course reccomend learning one of the songs I suggested before, becuase they do show Louise's personality much better. Definitely don't do "Your Daddy's Son" from Ragtime- so not appropriate.

i would if i had the sheet music! Sad i'll sing out of my dreams, i just watched the movie and it's a MUCH better fit! thanks!

No problem. In the future, if you're stuck for music, try some of the online sites like sheet music direct. But since you've got a day now, stick to what you know. Try to portray vulnerability most of all, and you should do all right. If you have any more questions about the character, feel free to ask. I was strongly considered for Louise (down to the last two girls) and the real Gypsy is close to my heart. so I think I might be able to help!
