guys and dollsI am a baritenor planning on auditioning for Guys and dolls. they want an upbeat song, and a ballad, but I don't know songs from many musicals. What show should I do a song from.
I have been in:
south pacific: sailor
CATS: bustopher Jones
Into the woods: rapunzel's prince
what songs, prefferably from those shows, would you reccommend? I only want an ensemble part if that helps.

You have some good options from South Pacific. For upbeat you could easily do either Nothin Like a Dame, or Bloody Mary. They are even somewhat in the style of Guys and Dolls.
Ballad- the two obvious choices are Younger than Springtime and You've Got to be Carefully Taught. I can't remember how high these go. It might be a reach for you as a bari, I'm not sure.

The South Pacific ideas are really good..especially for the uptempos becuae they could work for almost any character in G&D. You could also look at most of the other Rodgers & Hammerstein stuff..or stuff from My Fair Lady..like "Get Me to the Church on Time" or " A Little Bit of Luck"..I think for Sky Masterson "On the Street Where you Live would be Good" but I think its a tenor song. It really depends on what you want to go for..whether its the romantic lead (Sky) or a more comic part like Nathan, Nicely -Nicely, or Benny Southstreet. Also maybe look at some Loesser Material like "How To Succeed In Buisness without Really Trying" Best of Luck
