Guess what my school's next musical will be!The shows are being announced next week. I thought just for fun I would list off a bunch of shows they've done in the past, so you can get an idea and see if anyone can correctly guess what they will do!
Past musicals (I may have skipped a few, and I can only go so far back):
Oliver
Oklahoma
Anything Goes
Guys and Dolls
Fiddler on the Roof
The Pajama Game
Thoroughly Modern Millie
The Music Man
I think you can see a certain trend in the shows. I really wish we would do something non traditional, but it doesn't seem likely. Anyway, guess away if you want to.

Bye Bye Birdie.
You should suggest Les Mis (I know that it's released as my school did that a while ago), Sweeny Todd, Little Shop or Into the Woods.
Yeah. Are you auditioning for the musical?

Well it's too late for suggestions for next year, but we don't have enough good guys to do Les Mis. For Sweeney Todd we have a guy who could play a great Sweeney, and could sing Sondheim. But with a show like that you need really good people for every principle, and I just don't know if everyone could handle Sondheim. Little Shop can be ruled out simple because of cast size (this also applies to Sweeney Todd to a degree.) We do two fairly small straight plays every year, but my school definitely goes all out for the musical. We had a cast of, I kid you not, over 90 people for The Music Man. Of course that experience scared the director enough that she's said she wants to do a smaller show next year, but that means 50 or 60 people.
And wow, I definitely hope we don't do Bye Bye Birdie, but that is probably a lot more likely than the kind of show I want to do...
And yes, I will be auditioning. I actually don't really sing well at all, but have done musical theatre for years and I'm am (if I do say so myself) a pretty good actor. So in terms of the musical I'd just be looking at some sort of featured non-singing role, and I'm perfectly happy with that.

The only shows I'd like to do from those listed are Crazy for You and West Side Story. But again for WWS not enough strong male vocalists/dancers.

PS Even though I guess it technically is more of a traditional esque show, I have to admit I love Crazy for You. Actually I don't dislike traditional shows, I'm just a little sick of them. But the problem is the guy who I think is most likely to get the lead next year can't tap to save his life. There is another who can tap whom I suppose could play the role, but...I just don't see him as Billy.
I feel like I'm making our school sound kinda bad...but we really are fairly good! I swear!

We really have a good theatre program. At least we do pretty good straight plays...

Next year one of the plays will be Night of January 16th by Ayn Rand. The other has not yet been decided, but I won't be able to do it because I am codirecting/acting in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged for my "culminating project."
But I also just generally like the show choices that we've done in the past. Before The Music Man I was in a very successful production of The Crucible, which I enjoyed a lot.

The CRUCIBLE? We read that play last year in seventh grade, is it like way better watching it than reading it. Because I really didn't like reading it but I enjoy intense drama productions.

Yeah, it's one of my favorite plays, if done right.
