I am too! I think it will be great. I wonder who they will cast?

Hmmm.

And, after actually reading the article...it was a very iffy comment. Like, it's a possibility but not to bank on it.

What's with the exclamation marks?
It's Wicked, not Wicked!.
sopranodespair

I'll have to audition for that Wink
I think a movie adaption of the book would be really good too. I loved that book.
shakalakababy

I really doubt this is going to happen
jackissensational

It sounded more like a prediction that a fact, if you ask me.

Laughing I noticed it to. They kept calling it as "play" as well. I wanted to go through and edit the entire interview.

Here we go again.
It IS a play. It just has music in it, and it can therefore be further classified into a musical, or a musical play.

GOT IT?!?! Mad

Anyways, this honestly doesn't seem like a very reliable source, imo. It would've been WAY bigger news if it was a real announcement.

I think we all know there will be a film sooner or later. Interesting that he said "Wicked the musical" and not "Wicked the novel" or just plain "Wicked".
Salome

that would really suck i was hoping a film of Wicked the novel would redeem the source material from the shit that the musical is.
Mistress

Salome's [edit] back on the Wicked forum!

Salome = Wicked's no.1 Wicked fan.

Deep down, we all know she's in love with the show and wishes to be Elphaba on Broadway.

I don't doubt it will happen, however, I don't believe this to be anything to rely on.

People also have to realize that what is looks amazing on stage doesn't always look so amazing on film. For instance, a lot of the effects that are in PotO didn't translate and have the "wow factor" on film. I believe the same would be true for just about any show with any amount of specticale, because films have gotten to the point were you can do anything on them. For instance in LotR they had millions of things on a battlefield fighting it out. Long story short, I believe a good bit of the entertainment in Wicked comes from what you're seeing visually. On film, a lot of that element wouldn't have nearly the effect, imo.

i've missed dawnphaba

and i agree with sweeney 100%.

Defying Gravity especially would loose all it's wow factor. It's nothing amazing to see someone flying in a movie

I agree with you. I think that there would have to be several adaptations to the script and score for this to succeed as a movie. Just think about the climactic "Defying Gravity" scene in the show. It would fall flat in the world of today's CGI movies. That having been said I think that it is possible to adapt Wicked for the screen, but it would be a whole different show.
