Grease-School VersionMy community theeatre is going to be doing "Grease" the school version in the spring. I was just wondering what was different from the original version and tips on auditioning. I was thinking about going out for Frenchy, but tell me what you guys think I should try out for!
Lots of Luv! <3

My school's doing that now! Summer Nights is REALLY different lyric wise. Rizzo's song, "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" is gone and Hoplessly devited to you isn't in it. My school put Rizzo's song back and Hoplessly devoted in and took out "Raining On Prom Night"
Definately go out for Frenchy. She's having the most fun out of all of us! lol

Hopelessly Devoted To You is not in any version other than the new Revival cause it's written for the movie no the stage version.
The full adult version doesn't have it at all.

Ugh, I'm sorry for you. That version basically takes everything out of Grease that makes it Grease. Too bad.

My school did Grease a couple of years ago, and ours was pretty similar to what the movie has in it (which may be a little dodgy..)..Here's some of the things ours had that was different to the movie version of Grease, I have no idea what the original stage version is like.
- Scene 1 is a reunion scene *My school ditched this scene
- Doody sings "Those Magic Changes"
- Marty sings "Freddy My Love"
- *My school randomly chucked in "Hopelessly Devoted to You" at this point
- Kenickie sings "Grease Lightning"
- There's a random scene with Sandy, Patty and Danny
- Roger and Jan sing "Mooning"
- "We Go Together" is at the end of act 1
- "Shakin' at the High School Hop" *School used Grease is the Word instead
- Sandy singing "Raining on Prom Night"
- Doody and Roger sing "Rock n' Roll Party Queen"
- Final song is "All chocked Up" *Used "You're the one that I want" instead
Hope that helps somehow. Good luck with auditioning for Frenchie, I'd recommend Marty too, "Freddy My Love" is cool

This is the way the show should be. The movie was a disgrace. The only worthwhile parts of the movie were the new songs cause "You're the One that I Want", "Hopelessly Devoted To You" and "Sandy" are WAY better than "All Choked Up", "It's Raining On Prom Night" and "Alone at the Drive-In"

Oh wow. I totally disagree with this. The three songs that were added to the movie were not even of the right period, except for maybe "Sandy." "Prom Night" and "Drive-In" are very cleverly written, and fit the period much better, both content and style wise.
The movie, while not a disgrace, bore very little resemblance to the actual stage show. I think they are two separate things, and should remain that way.

I just can't seem to understand why people refuse to let Grease the show exist as its own entity.
And speak for yourself Tyler. The movie was actually all right. I thought the character development was actually a lot stronger in the movie than in the show, and I felt more of a unity and reality between the cliques as well. Could be just me though. Don't get me wrong though, there were a lot of things I couldn't stand about it (the misnomers on the T-Birds for example), but overall I like it a lot.

I explained there were some good things in the movie but it butchered the stage version and the stage version is perfect the way it was.

Sigh, I know, but, so are most of the shows on Broadway right now. It's sadly become the new thing... and I say sadly as a baritone who can hit high A's. I don't think it's fair either. Basses and baritones can riff too

As a Tenor I can say we have a hard time too cause there are a lot of us...all going for the same roles...when there is a big bass part there usually are many bass around so you all have better chances at parts written for your range.

the best thing about the film wast he inclusion of all the 1950s t.v. and movie stars playing the adults.

My school's doing this in the spring (auditions in January). Yes, the school version.
Somebody said the lyrics for Summer Nights are really different. Anybody have a copy of the edited lyrics? I don't see what's so inappropriate it had to be changed.
EDIT: Castlist went up today. I'm Danny!

I was in Grease over the summer and I was Jan. I cant see why anyone would want to change the lyrics or the songs. The show is deffinately a lot better than the movie.

My school is doing it now! I'm playing Frenchy, which has been very fun so far. The choreography is crazy! There is SO MUCH. But of course, it's really fun.

I was just in Grease, but we didn't do the school version. We just got permission to reword some of the "really bad" lines and went with the regular version. I really don't think it's worth it to use the student version. What's the point of Grease without all the language, sex, and smoking?
And I live in a rural community in Utah. Does it get much more conservative?
Although one lady complained that we said "hell" too much. I think we said it seven times. So the next night, Rizzo added another.

Our Danny was a bass. And our Kenickie was a tenor. Haha, my school's just backwards.
