Grease- Marty & Frenchy Tips?Hey! I'm doing a summer theater program and the show this year is Grease. I'm leaning towards auditioning for Marty or Frenchy. The director is a good friend of mine and I asked her who I should audition for and she said, "along the lines of Patty Simcox, or one of the Pink Ladies." Marty and Frenchy seem to be the ones that appeal to me the most. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could give me some tips, I've never preformed Grease before. We don't have to choose an audition song or monologue; we read from the script for acting auditions and are possibly going to be singing in pairs, (girl-boy) to "You're the One that I Want" for singing auditions. Please give me any helpful tips if you can! Sorry this is such a long post!-Musical_Maven |

Okay, well since I did Grease last summer, I'd be able to be of some help. In my production I played Eugene, and all of the Pink Ladies were my friends, so I know how mine was cast anyways.
First of all, Frenchy, as I came to know her anyways, is the ditz of the group. Her voice is very high pitched and squeaky (character), and is obsessed with her hair. Though this would never come into play for a kids' summer program like the one you're doing, she's usually the homelier one of the Pink Ladies, and therefore wears a lot of make-up and makes her hair very outlandish, thus taking the attention away from her actual features on her face. She's the only Pink Lady however who does not sing. Marty on the other hand, is the "beauty of the Pink Ladies". She's the youngest, and though she may look drop dead gorgeous, all of that is usually forgotten when she opens her mouth. Though Marty may be beautiful her langauge is certainly not, especially when she doesnt know what she's talking about half the time. She's always trying to impress the girls by telling them of her conquests with older guys, half of which aren't even true. Her number in the show is "Freddy My Love", and singing wise, it's particularly easy, and in a comfortable range for most girls. If you need anymore help just ask. If you want some inspiration for Marty though, besides the movie, if you ever watch the movie "Now and Then", Thora Birch's character of Teeny is a dead lock for Marty... at age 12 haha. If you need anymore help, just let me know. To help you even more, here are some pictures from my show of the girls: The Pink Ladies:

Not my cast, but a video of the 1994 Broadway cast Pink Ladies with Megan Mullally (Karen from "Will & Grace") as Marty in 1994: http://media.putfile.com/MM-Grease So, I hope all these help. If you want more stuff, I have a video of all the songs from my show on Youtube. I'd post the playlist, but I'm at school, and Youtube is blocked. For now just search Brianna Pierce Grease and you'll get "Freddy My Love". Hope this helps! EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=42F038B655E088B0 Those are all my vids for that show! P.S. My production's also the one people on here got upset about, because Jan was actually bigger. Go figure... lol. It's on the MdN social board. But anyways, hope this helps! Jman383 |
