Grease audition

I am auditioning for Grease soon, and it is my dream show. I have always wanted to play Sandy since I was 10 (i'm 23 years old now) but I'd be happy if I was cast as Rizzo or Marty as well. I am a college-trained soprano, and I can sing in both head voice and belt. Currently, I am playing Rumpleteazer in Cats (at the same community theater).

Does anyone have any song suggestions? We are allowed to sing from the show, but from my experience that is not the best way to go.

Songs I was/am considering are:
"Home" or "A change in me"- beauty and the beast
"Popular"- wicked
"Without You" - rent
"I know the truth" or "every story is a love story"- aida
"I won't say I'm in love"- disney's hercules

I know a lot of those aren't really in the style of the show...that is where I'm having issues....and that is why I'm posting this. So if anyone has any suggestions (feel free to like or rip on my song choices too!!!) I would really appreciate it.

Someone else just asked the same thing a few days ago, and my suggestion was "Frank Mills" form Hair. I heard it on Susan Egan's CD. Very cute and 50's sounding, has a wide range, not too long. I heard it and listened to it over and over until I learned it, and thought, 'this would be the perfect Grease audition song'.

It depends on what type and size theater it is, and how much other experience you've had, etc. , BUT- the general rule is don't sing anything from popular modern broadway shows, i.e. Wicked, Aida, Rent, perhaps BATB also, but that one might be OK. But then again, as you said, they're not really the style of Grease, either.
Check it out if you have time to learn a new song. (it's kind of weird in that it doesn't have rhyming lines)

I don't have enough time to learn a new song. This is a very small community theater (the theater is inside a mall), and I usually get decent roles with them. There is very little competition. I could sing them the phone book and they'd cast me, but for this show I am out for a specific role that I realllly want.
For my "Cats" audition, I sang "Take me or Leave me" from RENT, and was cast as Rumpleteazer....sooo my guess is that this theater doesn't care so much about what shows we use audition songs from.

But thanks for the suggestion....I definitely want to check it out and see if it's something I could use in the future!

Then I would go with something from Aida, or 'Home'.
Just my two cents!

They ended up wanting everyone who was auditioning for Sandy to sing "Hopelessly Devoted to You", so that is what I sang.

I think I did pretty well...they have 1 more day of auditions tomorrow, and then Wednesday are callbacks. I should find out tomorrow if I get a call back. I also wrote Rizzo and Marty down on the list of roles I wanted, so we shall see.

Oh my gosh...this wouldn't happen to be at Roger Rocka's, would it?

Never mind...it doesn't look like the same place. Weird, the theatre near me is having auditions for Grease this month, too, and CATS is currently playing. I just thought if you were the person I was thinking of, it would've been the weirdest coincidence...I want Sandy reeeally badly, too, and this particular girl beat me out of the part of Rumpelteazer in CATS at our callback. I was thinking...oh no! Hee hee. Laughing
