Yeah, I dunno either. I know that on the OBCR -- the recording I own and love -- "We Go Together" is sung twice: first as the Act I finale, as you said, and then as a reprise in the end of the show. Then in the revival, it's sung once early on in the show, and I believe it's supposed to sort of go with them singing the Alma Mater, but I'm not exactly sure why (I've never seen the stage version). It's also sung once more, later on. I'm not a big fan of this revival; it sounds too modern (especially "Beauty School Dropout," yuck) and the voices aren't very good. Also, they left out "All Choked Up," a song I love, and added in "Since I Don't Have You," which I don't really like.
That being said, it's still Grease, so if you're a big fan, you'll probably still like it.
