Goodby to Marguerite the musical with two ex London catsHi
Closing early at the Theatre Royal Haymarket
With Ruthie Henshall as the lead Marguerite and Matt Cross in the ensemble, I saw this last Wednesday. I must admit the show had not one song I could remember a day or two later.
Its based in German occupided Paris in world war two, a bit of a tear jerker with a very sad ending, she was also part naked at one point, the first and only time I have seen an ex Cats actor naked on stage. I know, a pointless bit of information, but you dont see that every day.
I also thought that the red dress she was wearing did not suit her. They have an image of her face on the fire curtain that blinks at you. That was
nice.
The set was mostly one room of a posh Paris house done in clear perspex/plastic and there are some good special effects when during an air raid the double doors at the back get blown in.
I am still glad I saw it though.
Oh by the way, Elaine Paige is doing a platform talk at the London's National Theatre on the 23rd of September, its based on her new book Memories and there is a book signing after the event. I think I will try to see that.
