Good Ballad Audition Songs

What are good Male Ballad Audition Songs for a Baritone/Bass?

Wow that's a mouthful.........

If you can hit top Fs go for 'If I cant Love her from' beauty and the beast

High Fs...top Fs are in most peoples falsetto range though.

Other great ballads...well I'm not sure what type of song you really mean by that (there are many definitions of a ballad)...but all these songs match at least one definition...I hope (I've always had trouble with finding what is a ballad and what isnt).

Soliloquy - Carousel - As the title implies, its a soliloquy set to music...and its one of the best examples thereof. A good performance of this will amaze any auditioner I think. Course, it's also really long (you need some stamina to sing it to be sure).

I Am What I Am - La Cage Aux Folles - Goes up to high F#, but is no doubt a baritone song. Really really powerful song if acted correctly. You really have to act this song as well as sing it or it loses its magic.

Pilate's Dream - Jesus Christ Superstar - Matches the traditional story telling definition of a ballad. It's a great song I think, though probably not the best idea for an audition.

Yeah...I thought I was gonna make a whole big list but now I've looked at the clock and realized the time. Gotta go get ready for school.

If you post this in the Auditions,Auditions,Auditions section you might get more responses? Maybe, IDK. Smile

I used to judge musical theatre auditions and would always think highly of a male performer who came in and was able to pull off a great rendition of either one of these tunes. Both songs are quite dark and haunting, so they require solid acting skills as well:

LONELY ROOM (Oklahoma) - Sung by Jud Frye. I recommend listening to the '98 London cast recording with Shuler Hensley as Jud.
MY FRIENDS (Sweeney Todd) - Usually a duet for Todd & Mrs. Lovett, but Mrs. Lovett's part can be easily worked around.

Pretty sure the sheet music for both is readily available.

Hope this helps,

On The Street Where You Live - My Fair Lady

On The Street Where You Live is quite definately a tenor song. If you can sing that you are NOT a baritone/bass.

Oops, sorry. I forgot...
