Anything from The Crucible or Death of a Salesman would be good. Or if it's a musical, there are s few good ones in A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to the Forum, Footloose or The Producers

Anything by Tennesse Williams...But Glass Menagerie is over-done, although if you can do a fantastic Tom (you said its for a guy, yes?) it can work...But only if you can totally rock it. Hmmmm....For comedy....Perhaps something from Barefoot in the Park..? Theres good ones in Arms and the Man...Servant of Two Masters...Thats all Ican think of now for some reason..I know tons more...Blah too many rehearsals in one day for me to think!

I agree that anything by Tennessee Williams would be good----he also might want to look at Chekhov's plays. In terms of comedy, there's a really fantastic monologue in Neil Simon's Rumors (which is one of Simon's lesser known shows---always a plus).

If he wants something more contemporary, here are some playwrights to investigate who write wonderful roles for men:

Neil LaBute
David Mamet
Adam Rapp
Nicky Silver

Hope that helps!
