| What Is This Feeling? |
Going to see Aida..Going to see Aida... in Scanton, PA, it is a tour. This follows my advice thread I made earlier. I already have tickets, I believe. I like mega-musicals. Do you think I'll like this one? Should I be prepared? Is there any like special effects? I'm just getting excited. What should I expect? |

Re: Going to see Aida..
Depends. It was originally a Disney production. Is Disney doing it? The show really hinges on having the three lead characters being good singers. I saw the Disney tour and loved it. |

Well, yeh it's the same production. But on the tour label, Disney isn't really mentioned , the poster is exactly the same though, what happens in Aida that can classify it as a Mega- musical? Or can u not say, to not give away too much plot?

I'm just interested why some call it a maga-musical, does it have huge sets?

No, because I don't know the answer to his question. I've never seen Aida. But I just thought it's funny how he obsesses over the "mega-musical." Nothing wrong with that but I just thought it was amusing. |

Looking at the videos, it is not Disney and this production (Non-Equity) looks like Aida Lite. The performances are not bad, certainly better than a regional production but the talent looks second tier. Some comparisons:
Definitely different set pieces and costumes. The Disney version has the actors whipping back and forth large sails in the beginning and it looks like they are missing here. The fashion show in the Disney version is pretty wild in costumes and this one looks somewhat subdued. The Disney version also has women swimming in a vertical swimming pool (pretty cool) but I doubt this production will do it. The Disney version uses lasers in the form of a triangle for "A Step Too Far" but this one doesn't. The orchestration sounds good but not as good as the Disney production. From the list of the Tour route, all the cities are medium sized. I don't know if Aida was considered a mega-musical. Disney was probably hoping for that. It did well though as it was on Broadway for about 4 1/2 years and did a national tour. |
