Going to NY in March...I know, I know, another one of these threads.
I'm probably going to NY for at least a few days of my spring break (March 20-2 , and need to figure out what shows I should see. There's some that I'm thinking about, but if you have any suggestions/guidance on what to see or not to see, let me know!
My list of "Maybes" so far:
Hair (Definitely)
South Pacific
West Side Story
Rock of Ages (Only if Kerry Butler's still in it)
Ragtime (Don't know much about this one...)
Miracle Worker (will this be open by then?)
Ordinary Days (LOVE the cast. Will this still be open in March?)
I feel kind of obligated to see Next to Normal considering the fact that everyone loves it, but I'm just not a huge fan of the cast recording so far. Is it worth it to give it a shot for those of you who have seen the show?

next to normal
Ragtime
Ragtime
Ragtime
But seriously, if you haven't already, get the cast recording of Ragtime and you'll just fall in love. The new production is phenomenal and needs to be seen. Yeah. See Ragtime.

South Pacific is AMAZING. Definitely try and see that.
I haven't seen N2N yet, or even listened to much of the OBCR, but pretty much everyone I know is in love with it. I've heard good things about Ragtime, as well.

I saw South Pacific once and LOVED it, but I want to go back to see Kelli O'Hara (I saw her understudy the first time).
I like the few songs I know from Ragtime, so maybe I'll give it a shot. Generally when I see things I didn't know much about, I end up liking them!

Definitely Hair, then I'd say Ragtime, and WSS if Karen is on that night.
I wouldn't necessarily see N2N just because everyone else thought it was amazing. Most the people I actually know who saw it hated it.

A Little Night Music!!!!
Quite possibly the last time the legendary Angela Lansbury will grace the Broadway stage.
Check out the clips on Next to Normal's website....if you aren't intrigued by them, skip it for something else that you will enjoy (even though I LOVE N2N and it was the best experience I ever had in a Broadway theatre).

I would skip West Side Story. The cast attendance is pretty horrible in comparison to other Broadway shows. Now, I've not seen the show myself so I can't speak from personal experience, but from things I've heard, the principal actors miss performances a LOT and the understudies in some cases just aren't up to par. But then again, I have a friend who's seen the revival several times and can't stop raving about how good it is...so I guess everyone feels differently. But personally, I would skip it.
On the other hand, I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Next to Normal and HAIR. I'm dying to see both after hearing about my friends' experiences seeing the show (and they've gone back multiple times, so I figure they wouldn't be wasting their money if the shows weren't terrific.)
Even though they're not on your list, I think the new productions of Ragtime and A Little Night Music will be great to see! Ragtime's cast is mostly from the recent Kennedy Center production, unless I'm mistaken, and I think the show got good reviews there, so the Broadway transfer should be AMAZING! And I second Brock--- the new ALNM may very well be Angela Lansbury's last Broadway show, and why miss her as Madame Armfeldt? Also, Catherine Zeta-Jones will be in the show as well and I think she'll be a remarkable Desiree.
In short (and sorry for the novel): N2N, HAIR, Ragtime, and A Little Night Music are my choices! (And, of course, In The Heights, but if it's coming near your hometown/college town on tour, I'd just wait to see it then.)

Thanks for the input everyone!
In the Heights is coming to my hometown in January, and Billy Elliot will be there during my spring break (right after I get home from NY), so that's why those aren't on my list.
I will talk to my mom about your suggestions!
