Godspell or Jesus Christ Superstar?

Dear Godspell Fans,

I know that you really love Godspell, but, really, is Godspell more interesting that Jesus Christ Superstar, or is Jesus Christ Superstar more interesting than Godspell?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Jesus Christ Superstar is got way more emotion.

Godspell to me is more fun - based and whimsical and family-orientated.

My vote goes to Jesus Christ Superstar cause it envokes people.

Well, I love "Godspell" and "Godspell"'s message more than JCS. I think that it can speak and invograte people and really scream a message about unity if approached right.

But "Jesus Christ Superstar" is brilliant in it's own right. It uses more Emotion, more of a structured story, and it's more driving and hooking than Godspell...I love Judas, because he's wildly emotional--and for that, JCS always hooks me. I never liked the character of Jesus, he seems to cold and too weak. So "Godspell"'s Jesus, is miles more represenative of Jesus Christ than JCS portrays.

So I'd say both are equally interesting and both ENTIRELY opposite ends of the spectrum in portraying the Life of Christ.

While they're two ENTIRELY different shows, I have to say JCS. I enjoy the music more, and find it more moving. I also find the crucifixion of Jesus to be a lot more moving in JCS as well.

Superstar has more depth. It's a drama. Godspell unfortunatly comes off silly even in the sad moments near the end. (at least in the movie)

I've been in both, so I can attest that they are completely different. I have a really hard time comparing. I would say both moved me a lot. Godspell has more of the laughs, and is more entertaining to people looking for a fun night at the theatre. But JCS is definetly a deeper show, with stronger music.

I really couldn't say I enjoyed one more than the other, or found one more difficult or interesting. They're both challenging in their own ways.

Please don't judge Godspell by the movie. It's meant to be a semi-intimate theatrical experience, something the movie can't even come close to.

My problem with JCS is, and will continue to be the lack of a resurrection. It just leaves the whole thing unfinished for me.

I personally love how whacky and weird Godspell can be..it's fun.

Truth be told though, I don't know a lot about JCS. Heard of it, know a few songs...but never seen it. Must look into that...

I've performed Godspell as well as seeing another production, but only seen the "movie" version of JCS. Both have some really good points, but I lean toward Godspell. It's just that little bit "off-centre" (and I mean that in a good way) to make it a bit more interesting and thought provoking.

I've not only seen but performed both shows and Godspell still reigns supreme for me. Not to say it's the better show but for my tastes, I prefer it. I love how quirky it can be and the quiet, yet commanding character of Jesus. Plus, it's fun and emotional all at the same time. Done correctly, the finale can feel somewhat akin to being sucker punched. I feel that, with the rest of the show being so lighthearted and fun, you almost forget what's coming- even if you're performing it.

I also love me some JCS. The music is powerful and it displays a completely different story. I like how it shows Judas being trapped in his decisions and leaves you wondering if it was even his decision at all. Plus, I have always had a soft spot for Mary Magdalene. I think if you want to go for the darker, more political side then go for JCS.
