Dear Musicals.Net Posters,

Are the maind characters in Godspell supposed to be super specific, with regards to their physical appearances, their attitudes, etc.?

Which character is which in the 1973 Godspell movie? I know who portrays Jesus, and who portrays John the Baptist, and I know that Robin is the blonde girl, but I'm not so certain about everyone else.

Katie Hanley ... Katie red straw hat with flowers
David Haskell ... John / Judas beard, lt brown hair
Merrell Jackson ... Merrell black male, all good gifts
Joanne Jonas ... Joanne Turn Back o Man
Robin Lamont ... Robin blonde day by day
Gilmer McCormick ... Gilmer brown braids, floppy hat, no song in movie, sang Learn your lesson well in o/b production
Jeffrey Mylett ... Jeffrey dark hair, hat with racoon tail no song in movie, sang we beseech thee o/b
Jerry Sroka ... Jerry black fluffy hair painted on handlebar mustache, in the Good Samaritan bit
Lynne Thigpen ... black female, beautiful voice o bless the lord my soul

Hey there... their physical appearances, not at all, but yes, each and every one of them has a strong and different personality. They are:

Jesus- Obviously kind, loving & sensitive

Judas- Strong, passionate and a very good speaker

Robin (Day by Day)- A bit shy, but comes out of her shell, and absolutely adores Jesus. Also tomboyish

Gilmer (Learn Your Lessons Well)- Completely silly. The comedienne of the group.

Joanne (Oh Bless the Lord)- High energy, usually very pretty, and very intelligent. A born leader.

Lamar (All Good Gifts)- Not very bright, but always wanting to have some fun. Very sensitive and loving, even in spite of his cluelessness.

Sonia (Turn Back, O Man)- The strong, sassy "slut" of the group. Never afraid to speak her mind, and get in people's faces about it. Dresses skimpy.

Jeffrey (We Beseech Thee)- The comedian of the group and the youngest. Very outgoing, happy, friendly and silly.

Peggy (By My Side)- The shyest of the group. She's very timid and very afraid to come out of her shell. She loves Jesus though, and is a very peaceful creature.

Herb (Light of the World)- Despite not having his own song, Herb is usually the one everyone plays the jokes on. He's just wanting to have a good time. Not overly funny, but still a very nice guy.
