Give It a Go?I just discovered that my community theatre is doing this most delightful of shows for the summer musical. I let out a great squee, and then a lot of little whimpers as reality hit.
The gist:
I'm nineteen, 5'10", alto with a range of low E-flat to E above middle C when warmed up. I'm a fairly strong actress; most of my roles have been somewhat unpleasant characters in some way shape or form, but always with some comedy.
The question:
Do I have any real hope of being cast? Or am I simply too tall and too low-voiced, not to mention at a weird age, for a role? I'm likely too old and too tall for Little Red, likely too young for either the Witch or the Baker's Wife, and most definitely not eligible for Cinderella, Rapunzel, or either of the mothers. The Step-sisters are always a possibility, but can you blame a girl for dreaming big? I know it's good to audition because you simply never know who else will show up and what the directors will be looking for, and no small parts, only small actors, etc., but... would I likely just set myself up for failure by auditioning (and lose $40 by signing up for the preparatory classes offered by the music director and choreographer)?
