This is Into the Woods. Not RENT. That would be pretty sick, I think. I know it's about the wolf eating Little Red, not banging her, but I still think it would be kind of weird.

that actualy sounds kinda cool. I've seen productions of ITW that have been very dark and more geared towards an adult audience. And Hello Little Girl already has that sexual feel to it so having a female wolf (even though i like the prince and wolf being played by the same actor) would add an almost "sexual experimentation" side to Little Red.

I could see it happening. The grandma incident would make more sense, and she could double as the giant's wife. Yes, it's possible.
Baker

It's not in my preference, but I've heard of it being done before. I've looked up high school pictures of ITW before, and some of them do include a girl playing a Wolf. So, although it's possible, I know at least I wouldn't like it very much.

two of my friends always tried to play the wolf since he also had other commitments and they were really good. It's not a bad idea, but they the traditional story is big bad wolf/guy finds innocent girl. d'oh!

Ummmm yeah. If a girl was going to play the wolf, they wouldnt make her look and act like a girl wolf. She would still look like a male wolf, and she would still act like a male wolf, and she would have to sing like a male wolf. As long as the actress is an alto, and can sing and sound like a man (which i can, actually), then theres no problem. Its called acting people..any half decent ALTO actress should be able to pull off being a man. There would be no difference from any other play, except for that the person under the costume would be a girl.

Well, broadway_bound should have said that the wolf will be played as a man, by a woman. I thought she meant that the character would be female, too.

This question reminds me of the "should Audrey II be voiced by a girl?" debate. I'd say it's mostly a matter of opinion. Personally, I think a girl playing the wolf could work just fine. But to answer your question, no, I've never seen it done.

Well, I've seen the role of Audrey II done by a woman and actually, it worked great! The girl played it more like a sassy, Gospely woman! She added a bunch of riffs in and it was awesome! Mr. Green

Audrey II almost works better as a woman. The show follows the whole Macbeth story line (sort of), and in this case, making Audrey II a female makes her more similar to Lady Macbeth.

A bit unrelated, but I rather like this version of the Wolf:

That's really cool, Baker!

Wow, I never realized the connection to "Macbeth." To my credit, I'm not very familiar with LSoH, but I am at least slightly familiar with the plot. And I adore "Macbeth," so I would have thought I'd notice the similarities. Ah well. I don't really think I know the show well enough to form a legitimate opinion on the issue, anyways. This thread just reminded me of the thread in the LSoH forum. Smile

I disapprove of any and all cross casting. If the show's creators want a woman playing the part they'll write it for a woman.

If they can do it with pirelli I don't see why they couldn't do it with The wolf

hehe, this is an interesting topic... I guess it would depend on your audience, if it was a school production of it then I wouldn't but if it were another theatre production, you probably could get away with it, but really why complicate things?

I've always thought that Little Shop was more of Faust then Macbeth.

I'm a girl and I played the wolf; then again, we were REALLY low on boys. (Our two boys were playing the Narrator and Milky White... [I don't know why they didn't give him Jack, but hey whatever.]) I played him as a man, but I had to sing the song up the octave (which was pretty lame.)
