Getting Cut Short at an Audition

i know this belongs in the audition section but nothing i post there seems to get attention. and this is urgent.

okay, theres this song i use for auditions. it's not a solo. theres a 32 bar section that i really like, from which i pick the 16 bars that showcase me the best.

i have an upcoming audition and it calls for a 32 bar audition.

i don't choose the beginning half of the section because though it does sound nice on my voice, the second part sounds even better

now, im planning on using those 32 bars for the audition.

i'm just afraid that they'll stop me short, before i get to the really good part which is at the end.

i know that there are other songs i could pick but i would really like to do this one because i am comfortable with it, and the audition is in 2 days.

theres really no other way to segment the song because the part i'm using is only 32 bars long anyway before it goes into the male part.

so what do i do? im just terrified of being stopped short.

32 is a damn long audition. just do the best 16 bar cut. If they want more, they'll ask.
MaryMag

Yeah I'd probably just go with the 16. I haven't been able to do 32 in a while... I spose soon it'll all be 8 bar auditions!

32 bars is realllly long. i did one a few months ago and i felt like i was singing a whole song.

they wont write like "doesnt follow directions well" on my audition paper if i just decide to cut it down?
Robinflamingo

be prepared to sing the same 16 bars again??

oh, theyre probably gonna ask me to sing more?

Well, that way you are ready for anything...

If the 16 bars you are going to sing are as good as you say, just sing those. If they ask for more, you could go back to the beginning of the 32 bar cut. I'd be prepared for all possibilities~

have a contrasting 16 ready. when they say sing 32 bars, what they are really saying is "don't you dare sing MORE than 32 bars don't you know we have alot of people to see today?"
broadwayxdoll

yeah. maybe a contrasting 16 would be good. i dk

im just in love with the 16 bars i have because its the best audition song i have found for myself so far....

but robin, would they really wanna hear those same 16 bars over again?
broadwayxdoll

i just found out that the company im auditioning with already did the show my song is from.

do it still? im running out of options
ilovebway

I'd go ahead and use it considering the amount of time you have left before the audition.
