Gaston audition

I have an audition for Beauty and the Beast in a couple of weeks. I'm going for Gaston and the director has specifically told me not to do a pop-sounding song from one of the newer musicals. Any suggestions for a character song that would showcase a baritone voice?

Gaston is an awesome role. I played him in the spring.Tips for getting Gaston. Work your pompous facial expressions. Everything you say sound just overly into yourself. If you for some reason have to say a line like "Im going to lunch." just say it pompous as heck. I would read the musical script before the audition so you can get a feel for the charactor. He is alot more of a comic relief until the 2nd act. I thin he is portrayed alot differant in the cartoon compared to the musical. If you need a script go to SImplyscripts.com I know they have it there.

Songs - I sang "Im not wearing underwear today" from avenue Q. BUt it is from a pop musical. YOu can do the song very classical which is the way I did it. If you sing real pompous and classical it works really well for the charactor. I guarentee no one else will do it. My director said that the song stood out so much when he was looking through the other gastons audtionees. C'est Moi from Camelot would be great but could be done by many other people considering there isnt a ton of "Gaston" type Audition songs out there. BREAK A LEG!!!!!!

A really good song for this audition would be C'est Moi from Camelot. It's sung by Sir Lancelot, who is a very pompous, suave type character like Gaston. It's also the sae vocal range (baritone) and the song style is similar to the song "Me". All and all I think it's a really good pick. And its not overdone.

I might be biased because a guy did that at an audition I was at for the part. I know there was one more. Because one of my friends went gfor gaston also and he sang cest moi. Which Ironically was what I was going to do because my vocal coach suggested it. But I changed because my friend. All in all Cest Moi is a perfect song for the audition but some other people might be doing just because it is a picture perfect Gaston song.

On a funny note Im auditioning for lancelot in Camelot in a couple monthes and im doing the song ME.
