GAMES SHOWS at their apex in the 70s!!

aaahhhh, the wide lapeled brightly patterned suit jackets.

the man 'fros.

the "conservative" hair cuts that are eerily similar to recent "emo" cuts, just not dyed black.

the celebs smirking over their "double intendre" cutesy puns.

If you want an accurate picture of the 70s - just watch Game Show Network!!

an entire episode imbedded in order on this page.
UniquePerspective

Match Game from the 70s was epic.

Simple as that.
Quique

I feel honored to have been born in the 70's. Mr. Green
Chevstriss

WATCH the clips.

didn't Jan Murray, Alice Ghostly, and Liz Torres do Match Game also?

certain "celebs" seem to be "celebs" strictly cuz game shows said they were.
Joshua

I feel honored to appreciate the seventies and wish I was born then.

did your Dad sport the "man fro" or the "Ashton Kutcher"?
Quique

No, he always had his hair slicked back, but he wore those checkered suits, lol.

Omg, Marjoe is in this! And Lynda is so hawt. Who the hell are the other 'celebrities'? lol.
Quique

Wow, your nose SHOULD be 1/3 of your face. Learn something new everyday. XD
Chevstriss

back then, any significant trivia you needed could be learned on Game Shows.

Lynda Carter was, indeed, the height of pulchritudity.

Enrique, you know she is Mexican descent, right?
Quique

Yes, Mexican and Irish. No wonder she's so pretty. Mr. Green

The 70s also contained that cultural phenomenon called

The Gong Show

If you think today's reality TV is bad you haven't seen anything.

ahhh yes. Jaye P. Morgan was the celebrity judge who always tried to say something halfway "dirty", wink wink, nudge nudge.

and as a celeb, no one had ever heard of her BEFORE the gong show.
Chevstriss

and just in case anyone doesn't know the RULES of game show celeb hierarchy, when the witty celeb panel is introduced at the top of the show, the BIGGEST STAR is announced last.

like this:

Celeb A, Celeb B, Pretty Starlet, has been Borsht Belt comic, female comic, Celeb X,

and . . . .

*dramatic pause*

HIGH MAGNITUDE STAR

all's I'm sayin'
Chevstriss

oh and don't tell anyone but

these tapes are BOOTLEGS!

but not from the person who lined them up on their blog, someone else did the YouTube posting.

isn't 95% of everything on YouTube a boot?

except for the home made people staring into their camera vlog stuff, and the fraction of a percent of Public Domain stuff, you gotta say, well guess so.

Paul could really serve up a punchline better than any other star on the show. I always wondered how many of those he made up, and how many were written for him. He was great, and made the show the success it was.
Salome

Lynde always wrote his own material..but it was never clear if he saw any of the questions before the show.

either way he was a genius.
Chevstriss

Paul Lynde and Alice Ghostly worked together on Bewitched AND Hollywood Squares.

There are other Break the Bank clips in existance where Alice goes off on "one of my spells".

I'm betting Paul Lynde didn't do other game shows besides Squares - it was kinda his baby.

Wally Cox was always up in the corner square. I remember he died fairly young, and as a kid it upset me to see him still on the game show, like they were pretending nothing had happened. I guess I thought game shows were live.
lesmisloony

Oh my goodness, I freakin love those old shows. "Match Game" was indeed epic, but I also really love the old "Family Feud" and "Let's Make a Deal." My favourite part of shows like that is when someone wins a hideous car whose market value is $4000. Laughing
Chevstriss

don't be like Dumb Dora
Chevstriss

I think they filmed a weeks worth of shows in one day - the stars just changed clothes and came back on for another taping.

Marjoe's other outfits:

un tres bel homme. le sigh.

I've never seen the clip of him in the green ensemble.

Marjoe did another week of this show in which he did NOT get the star seat. oh the indignity!!
