Front row or back row?

Which do you think is better? The first time I saw the show I was further in the back, which makes the opening so special. Now I'm sitting on the fourth row in the Stalls... Which makes it fun to watch the costumes and make-up and the expressions from the actors.

Which do you prefer?

Well, speaking as a costumer myself (Very Happy) I tend to prefer to sit closer. This is usually for any show, but esecially with tLK because everything is so beautifully done. Seeing awesome creativity like that makes me think (or at least wish) that maybe I could come up with cool ideas like that, too, for a show. Although I've never tackled anything anywhere NEAR as challenging as that! Hehe.

Okay, I have decided that I liked the back row better. The opening is much more impressive that way and I focus a lot more on the puppets in general. When sitting in front I focus on the actor's faces. That is nice too, but it just takes away a bit of the magic... The actors and their costumes didn't melt into one and turn into an actual animal... but the actors were actors with silly masks and costumes instead. It was better to see Scar closer by though, it made him much more interesting. I also liked seeing the reactions of the actors.

Eh, fair enough. To each his own, I guess. Very Happy

I saw it twice too. The first time I was in from mezzanine, which was great because it was like being slightly detached but still right in there. The second time I was 5 rows from the front, which was so powerful at time that I cried. I would say they're both great in their own way.

I think both rows are good actually.

Maybe not aaaaall the way in the back, hehe.

But in the back, you get a good view of everything that happens.

When you're in the front rows, you have to look up/down/left/right a lot more to see everything.
But off course, you can watch the details/actors and all that better.

First time I saw Lion King on B'way I was in the last row, and everything was so distant, and I could barely see the lip of the stage, so I missed everything in the aisle. All the procession of animals. I think in general it really depends on the show, I think front row is a little too close for lion king. Just my opinion.

Puppets + Performers

But surely that is part of the challenge of performing in The Lion King? I think the most successful "Lion King" performers are those who manage to integrate the puppetry into their characterisation. They should never look like actors with silly masks and costume, no matter how near or far you are sitting.

Probably somewhere inbetween. Before it moved theatres in New York, I saw it at the New Amsterdam. I was on the front row on the right and I could not see a thing upstage. (Ex/ Timon and Pumba's entrance). I was shorter then but even my grandmother had trouble. The orchestra pit was shaped oddly though.

Yeah that troubled me too; I think we couldn't see how Timon got in the river and all that.

Plot point...

Well, I wouldn't regret that too much. It's one of the more contrived additions to the stage show . But I would still take that over the endless fart jokes...

Well, a touring production of the Lion King is coming to my area, so this is an interesting thread. I recently saw My Fair Lady and sat too far away, IMO. But, I think a good option would be to sit farther back in a balcony but use opera glasses at times. Another good option would be to buy a spendy ticket to see the details better.

Anyway, I want to go see the show!

Last month i saw it in the Minskoff from the 4th row, and never again, that stage is too high, REALLY TOO HIGH you couldnt even see when the part of the stage tilts up.

Next tim ei go i think i will aim for middle of the orchestra or front row of the mez.

Mind you the 3 times before that i saw it at the New Am from the top balcony and that was way too far away.

I did front row in London and it wasnt too bad.

Toronto had a great stage height, I miss that production.
