From Her or Me to Now That I've Seen HerIn one of the replies to my posts in this forum, I found out that when the song Her or Me was rewritten as Now That I've Seen Her for the Broadway production, the US edition of the London cast album had inserts that changed the song title. Some people would think this pressing of the London cast album to be the Broadway cast album, but we know that Miss Saigon never ever had one.
Do you know why Boublil and Schonberg changed the lyrics, and why did the record company decide to print Now That I've Seen Her on the inserts of the London cast album?

I believe that the Miss Saigon Original London Cast Recording was recorded before the show was finished with previews, I believe the lyric changes to Her or Me was in the Original Production. Although, many of the lyrics on the London Recording were not used in the London production, so I don't understand why they didn't re-record other musical numbers.

You sometimes see it listed as "Now That I've Seen Her (formerly Her or Me)". I think at least some printings of the OCR booklet have this combination.
The song was written in something of a hurry close to opening, which probably explains the late change. Her or Me is just trite, Now That I've Seen Her is much better.

I remember it from stage as "It's her or me" (I saw the OLP).
"now that I've seen her" is more of a trad soliloquy as opposed to Ellen making up her mind she was going to fight...
I also remember after seeing it again in '98 how it seemed more.. umm... declamatory than in the original..
