Frankenstein to Open Off-Broadwayhttp://www.broadway.com/Gen/Buzz_Story.aspx?ci=550952I think that if they keep it close to the original story like they say they did, have a fitting musical style, and don't make it too spectically...it could be really good. If it is we'll certainly see a Broadway transfer ere long. |

Is the monster a bass? He should be a bass.

No, I think in this version he is a trout. |

There is a concept recording available...buy it and see! I want to get it...but I'm going to wait...they may make an off-broadway recording or if it transfers an OBCR. |

I just got the concept CD the other day in the mail. So far it's not doing it for me as much as the online selections do.
From reading the authors' concept of the show, it seems like they are making an honest effort to tell and honest story, as true to the original as possible. I'm gonna root for this one. I look forward to seeing how the visuals match the music. |

The music kinda reminds me of Jekyll & Hyde.
And yay! The monster sounds like a bass! |

With Young Frakenstein coming out it's going to be like...A Frakenstein overload! LOL
I saw the play version of Frakenstein at a local theatre about 2 Halloweens ago...I liked it. As a musical I don't think I could take it seriously though. Let me guess...The monster will have some big dramatic ballad about not being loved, right? |

I read the Wishbone version of the actual novel when I was very young, around 7 or 8, and I remember it being the first book that made me really sob. I don't know if I can take it in a musical- the plot synopsis sounded like drama overload. The music was OK- nothing was particurally stunning, but nothing really horrible.

From what I can tell they are still re-working the show...I just hope it isn't pop...it would be much better suited, I think, for something more...Oliver! in nature maybe?

Hunter Foster to Play Dr. FrankensteinHey, this may give the show a little more cred. Hunter Foster (Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors) has agreed to play Victor Frankenstein.Honestly, I've never been a huge fan of his, but maybe adding his name to the show will get more people to check it out. |

Here's a promo photo from Frankenstein, the Musical, in previews right now at 37 Arts, Off-B'way. I'm gonna try to see this around Thanksgiving. I think it sounds really interesting. The creators are trying to stick as close to the original novel as possible. Something TOTALLY different than Young Frankenstein (and much more affordable!!) There's a video of an open rehearsal here: Frankenstein, the Musical with Hunter Foster as Victor Frankenstein. |
