Forum upgrade? + prunes

Do you want to upgrade to phpbb3?

Ups:
Better interface. More features. More stable. Less addons that cause stability issues.

Downs:
Possible loss of post count. Possible loss of other data from add-ons.

I'm also going to prune soon. So, prepare for prunage! Save old posts that you want to keep. Posts that have not been touched with in the past year will be history.

Check the new version out here:
http://www.phpbb.com/

Soliciting interest only. 30 day poll. No guarantees that it will happen. Your milage may vary. Please do not go off topic.
Quique

Sounds good to me! Time for a change.
mezzo_soprano

Could someone please explain what this is? I'm not that great on internet stuff.
Trevor reincarnate

I do quite like it the way it is right now. But I'm down with whatever. I voted no. But I'm okay with yes.
shakalakababy

sure, why not?
Joshua

Absolutely! I love change -- especially for the better.
Although I want to keep my post count. Wink

And what will it look like?
UniquePerspective

I'm for it.

Re: Forum upgrade? + prunes

Do you have any details at all, Carbucketty?
What kind of new features?
What other data can be lost?
How will it change how we browse & post on MdN?

This is going to sound stupid, but how do you save posts? I've never done it before.

And I shall be quite sad if I lose my post count. Crying or Very sad
jackissensational

I don't think many of us want to loose our post count, and I'm happy with MdN right now. On another note, will we have to dowload anything or whatever? Or one day will we just visit MdN and it will be different?

I voted "no."
dolbinau

IPB!! (I know it wasn't one of the options, but I really prefer this so much over PHPBB)
Dax

Why is post count so important to some? Is it like an e-penis size issue? (If you're female don't answer that.)

I'll go with what Carb thinks best.
Brock07

^^Yeah, pretty much.

I want more info too before I vote.
wicked_boy

Please please please please no!

I love the board as it is now.

If we change, it won't feel the same.

I like coming on MdN and seeing the nice shiney yellow banner and seeing all the boards nicely layed out and easy to read.
Luc

The only thing I would change is the MdN Social Club banner. Idk why, though. That's just me being picky.

But could we have an ounce of information here before we vote?
lovesinging

Like Dax said, I don't understand why post count is so important...it's like eliteism (sp?). Really, if you post only for post count instead of meaningful things, there's not much point to the post anyway.

Sorry if that makes no sense, but it does to me. I vote yes. I'm definitely open for change!
Kragey

Voted other: either is fine for me, as long as the forum doesn't spontaneously combust.
wicked_boy

If we do change, will you let us know when?

So I can come on for the final time of the "old" MdN.
Luc

Carb, check your PM's s'il vous plait.
Amber

I'm all for it. It'd be nice to see a new look on MdN. And...well, my post count's not that impressive considering how long I've been here, so that's not even an issue for me.

Yes. Very Happy
jetblack_diva

I'd like more info as well before I say whether or not!
Cake_in_Song

I want...multiquotes! Would we get multiquotes?
Joshua

Cake_in_Song wrote:

According to the compare list on the website, yes. Smile
Luc

It's not very hard to do, even if we don't have a multiquote button. Smile

Isn't this multi quoting right here? Or am I not understanding the word?

I don't know exactly what this "multiquoting" is, but it's on the list.
Luc

I assume it's when you can quote more than one person, and have their name in the quote bubble?

All you have to do is type in, for example,
[quote="Cake in Song"]then type the quote and put[/quote*] at the end (but without the asterix)

Well we already have that. And according to the list, multiquoting isn't a feature of this version of phpBB (phpBB2), but it is in phpBB3.

We don't have it. It's manual in this version, auto in the new version.
Cake_in_Song

It's like this special fun button you can click to collect up quotes, and then you reply. It puts them all in neatly for you. No typing or copying and pasting necessary. So fun!
Joshua

Well, Carb, I think the answer is Yes.
Joshua

Well this poll has been open for 31 days. Carb?
Carbucketty

Over 2/3 of those who replied want to upgrade.

I'll let Sally know.

REMINDER: Doesn't mean it will ever happen and if it does, some data will likely be lost.

edit: someone please de-announce this topic in a few days.
