For Those Who Don't KnowI bring this up because it got brought up in chat by me, and there are some people who don't know this about me, so for thsoe who don't know, I might as well reveal, and for those who do know, sorry to bore you with this again. :p
Anyways, to the point, I have a mild form of autism, about the same level as Asperger's, but not quite the same (It's a bit complicated to explain). Figure on a place like this that I can tell people pretty comfortably, and I think it is important in that this is sort of a defining fact about me, and I like to be as open about it as possible, so again, for those people who don't/didn't know, now you do. Any questions or comments about it, feel free.

Well, your not the only one dude. I have Asperger's as well. It's been a very difficult life to have when you have Asperger's.

I know multiple people with asperger's and other mild forms of autism. They've all been really great people once I got to know them, and you seem like a pretty great person too

My Spanish teacher in high school suspected I may have Asperger's syndrome, but I have no idea. I'd have to get it checked out. I think I might have a form of autism. I think I talk funny sometimes and I compulsively daydream about crap. But I have no idea. Short attention span and other junk.

I highly commend each of you with any form of autism to publicly admit it and not be embarassed of it!
Don't listen to other people's stupid comments or sarcastic kudos you are all wonderful people that I don't look at at being different at all!

Ditto to that.
The only time Autism or Asperger's has made me lose respect for anyone is when actors attempt to pull it off for a role and fail. (I'm not pointing any fingers at Mary McDonnell for her stint on Grey's Anatomy...)
But on a serious note, I think it's awesome that you all are dealing and coping so well. I offer you all nothing but love and support!

Then your gonna hate me, all leading roles I had failed, then again I worked with the worst director in the world.

I have a mild form of Aspergers. It runs in my family, too, and tends to enable us to focus with great effectiveness on very specific areas of interest. Yes, there's the social awkwardness, and impatience with people who seem to speak/post only to be sarcastic and unpleasant - they seem such a waste of good oxygen - but social skills can be learned, like any foreign language.
There is an enormous variety of skills/challenges in the autism spectrum, but the most common denominator is a high level of abstract intelligence and capacity for objective thought - being intellect-led rather than simply responding from the emotional level. I'd rather deal with socially awkward, highly intelligent Aspies than social butterflies any day. The butterflies may be far more successful in the superficial world of making contacts and being well-thought-of, but such things are very, very ephemeral.

I find it really interesting actually. It's just a really interesting thing to learn about.
There was a kid in my theatre class last year who had a pretty severe level of Aspergers, and he was one of the best actors in the class. For his audition for advanced production, he tried out with the monologue from Hamlet ("To be, or not to be") and absolutely owned, and he made the class. He also knows his sh!t when it comes to pre-1900s theatre. Seriously.

But yeah, I find it really intriguing.

I think you might have misunderstood me!
A. I don't hate anyone. (Mostly anyone... but you have to try really hard... )
B. I didn't mean actors with Autism or Asperger's. I meant actors WITHOUT it who try to portray someone with the character unsuccessfully. I was mostly using it as a cheap rip at Mary McDonnell. (Who I really do love in everything, except that arc on Grey's. FAIL!)
Hope that clears things up!

I didn't know until you said on the chat. Some of my family members (no one in my household-just distant) have it, too. I'm also proud of you for posting it on this and having the guts too...I could imagine it wasn't easy

If it didn't work on Grey's Anatomy, it works/worked brilliantly on House, with the good Doctor being frequently theorized as an undiagnosed Aspie, but never proven conclusively.

I wasn't aware of that. I'm glad you shared it with us. We all have our obstacles, so if anything, it inspires me that you are such a strong person to be dealing with this.
If you need anything, you know where to find me!

I think it is great that you are able to be so open about it. my Brother has mild aspergers actually.
I have A.D.D. That is my secret that I am finally open about.
