My school is doing Music Man for next years spring Musical. I am most deffinitely a character actress and I was wondering if someone could give me names of over-the-top fun character roles for women in the show such as Marian's mother, etc.

The two good female character roles are Mrs. Paroo (Marian's mother) and Eulalie McKechnie Shinn (Mayor's wife). To pull off Mrs. Paroo, you should be able to do an Irish accent. Eulalie gets to do the whole "Grecian Urn" tableau with the Pick-a-Little ladies, which if pulled off well can be an absolute scream.

both parts are fun but i think that Eualalie has the most fun in the show. The actress who played her in my recent production stole every scene she was in!

I agree with the other two. Eulalie is (if done well) the funniest/best character in the show. When I did Music Man, you could have easily called it Eulalie Macecknie Shinn and the Music Man.

Only problem is that she doesn't really sing. I think she leads the ensemble in singing "Columbia, Gem of the Ocean" but that's about it.

Seriously, though, I'd give up singing in a show to play Eulalie.

She's the best role.

Mayor and Mrs. Shinn usually are the most memorable roles next ot Harlod Hill.

Well I will have to stray from the majority here because I played Mrs. Paroo and had a lot of fun! And I'm a character actress.
