Footloose Auditions (Rev. Moore)Hey, our school is holding auditions for next year's musical (Footloose) next week. And I really, really, really, want the part of Rev. Moore. Does anyone have a song they'd recommened?
I was planning to sing/play on guitar "Your Eyes" from Rent (I had won the musical solo contest at our State ITS convo, and was invited to Internationals) But my Mom says that she thinks "Your Eyes" isn't the right style of song. So I was considering perhaps doing "Barber and his Wife" from Sweeney Todd or "Lonely Room" from Oklahoma!
If anyone has any suggestions for me or if anyone wants to tell me "Go for it!" on the songs I was considering, please don't hesitate to leave me a message.
Thank you so much in advance,
-Douglas D.

Actually, I haven't found a piece I haven't been able to sing along with.
I've never actually taken formal vocal lessons or anything, but since I have 9 years of music theory, piano, guitar and percussion behind me, I have a great ear and can pick up on songs very quickly.

I'm assuming you've heard Reverend Moore's big song at the end where he's realizing all that's gone on and the change's that are needed.
While you may sing "Your eyes" well, Roger's singing it to dying Mimi and in that sense it doesn't fit the context.
Rev. Moore is an uptight conservative man and is greiving the loss of his son years ago.
And as someone said earlier -I recommend a ballad that's introspective and such. Songwise I'm not sure which ones. I'll dig around my Itunes.

I played rev. moore in high school. It is a FANTASTIC role with some great songs. A song i would consider trying is Empty Chairs At Empty Tables from Les Miserables (if you can handle the range). That is a great emotional song with a similar (although higher) vocal range.

Thanks for all your help everyone! I went ahead and took the risk with Your Eyes (mainly because I ran out of time), and I got the part of Shaw. Thanks again. Now all I need is a forum on MdN for Footloose...lol
