Footloose auditionMy school is doing Footloose and I need an audition song. But, Footloose is different than any musical I've ever seen. I'm not sure where I could get a song that matches Footloose's style. I'm a female and I need a mezzo song. Does anybody have any ideas?

Just sing an 80's (possibly 70's) pop song. Some good ideas for songs escape me at the moment, but that is all. DON'T sing a typical broadway song. This is the one and only time to sing pop music.

Is something like Cyndi Lauper alright for a Footloose audition?

Cyndi Lauper should be all right. Choose something along the lines that follow the music from the show... some songs include...
"Footloose/On Any Sunday" (Company)
"Holding Out for a Hero" (Ariel, Rusty, Wendy Jo, Urleen)
"Let's Hear it for the Boy" (Rusty, Company)
"Almost Paradise" (Ren, Ariel)
"The Girl Gets Around" (Chuck, Ariel)
"I Can't Stand Still" (Ren)
"I Confess" (Rev. Moore)
"Heaven Help the Man/I'm Free" (Company)
"Learning to be Silent" (Vi, Ethel)
"Dancing is Not a Crime" (Ren, Teenagers)
"Mama Says" (Willard, Travis, Bickel)
"Heaven Help Me" (Rev. Moore)
"Can You Find it in Your Heart" (Vi)
"Somebody's Eyes" (Rusty, Company)
I think that is all the music... It's been 2 years since I done the show. Most songs are up beat with a few ballads ("Learning to be Silent" "I Confess," and "Can You Find it in Your Heart") and one is a rap type a la "Ya Got Trouble" ("Dancing is Not a Crime")
Choose something that is among this style and that also glorifies you of course! Good Luck! Oh, and the names behind the song describe what character sings a particular song.... Hope this helps!

Hmm... well, it's getting closer to audition time and I'm thinking about the song Take My Breath Away by Berlin. Is this a good choice? I'm an Alto and not going for Ariel, I just want one of the friends or Vi.

Although this is a commenly used audition peice and it's against my better judgement to suggest it, Fame from FAME is a good choice for this musical. In my opinion, the rock beats match the ones in footloose.
My friend sang "The Body Electric" and got cast as Vi. I'm not really familier with this song as much, but obviosly it was good for her.
