Fiorello!

Show that I think is definitelly overlooked. Most like because of its tie with "The sound of Music"?
JeffF

It's a wonderful show and score, but overlooked? By who?

Besides the Tony Award(and beating a musical as great as Gyspy is no small accomplishment!) it also won the pulitzer prize and a Tony for Tom Bosley(though categorizing him as a supporter was absurd) and for George Abbott.

Wonderful Harnick-Bock score. I have the OBC and listen to it often.

I just mean not as many people seem to know the show as the amount of people know TSofM
Salome

its a brilliant show. The sceane stealer is definately Howard DaSilva as Ben and his two showstopping songs "Little Tin Boz" and "politics and Poker"

if anything that year Fiorello and Gypsy should have tied not the pathetic SoM.

"Little Tin Box" always has such great contemporary value too. That's one song that will always be relevant(and entertaining).

The major reason more people know Sound of Music is because the movie was a blockbuster hit and because several of the songs were individual hits. Fiorello's songs are wonderful, but are written with the plot in mind, not to be hits outside of the show.
Quality doesn't always have to do with which shows are better known.

It was a relatively strong year for musials, with the enjoyable "Once Upon a Mattress" opening on Broadway that year too.

As for Gypsy, it's incredible that one of the greatest musicals in American History didn't win a single Tony that year. I know I'm getting a little off topic, but I've finished reading Brian Kellow's "Ethel Merman: A Life" and it's must reading for musical lovers!

Ah yes that's on my Amazon wish list. Wink Fiorello - my favourite song is "Where do I go from here", which was cut from the show...but I still think it's a beautiful ballad.

My voice teacher introduced me to the song, but he never knew the show, just that song, so I bought the OBCR and that got me into it.

Kind of funny because I don't think Legally Blonde won any too, yet Curtains is closing first, then again, Legally Blonde is probably attracting the Tween Girls of America right now, which is probably it's blood supply.
