Finishing the hat....

Hi guys,

I love Sunday in the Park with George - ever since I saw it for the first time I've wanted to be in it!! Very Happy

However, there's one tiny bit of it I don't understand - what does George mean in the very last line of finishing the hat? ie - "Where there never was a hat!"

Thanks. Smile

the hat wasn't there till he painted it.

Its exactly as Salome said. The last lyrics are

"Finishing a hat...
Starting on a hat..
Finishing a hat...
Look, I made a hat...
Where there never was a hat"

Erm. . . thats not quite what I meant - I meant why was the hat not there? He is completely fixated with his work - why particularly with a hat that he he has invented?

Thanks. Smile

He is saying look at the pretty hat that I made!
It was not there before because it had not been painted yet.
Maybe imagined....

George is exited about every detail of his art. Even just a hat.

It's an act of creation...he's feeling that HE made something BE.

Mano Feliciano did a really fine version of the song at the Broadway For Medicine benefit last month.
