Finally! Luck on the Dutch Cats :-)

I nearly didn't hope that I'll manage to see Veerle live, but the luck was on my side Smile (with a little help from her). And I must say that she was really fantastic - great dancing, smooth movements and very nice voice (slightly better on the second evening in saturday than on friday).
Overall - I had problem with concentrating on other cast members Embarassed

And even if I didn't manage to meet her after neither of the shows, I do not regret any € spent to see this show for the 4th and 5th time.

So I can definitely recommend this show to anybody - before it ends in October in Nijmegen (there are last 4 cities). If you have time & money do not hesitate Wink

Did you see any understudies/swings on Friday or Saturday Question

Yup, there were several swings. The most noticable for me was Paul Waulthaus as Old Deuteronomy, because Marco told me the evening before that he has a concert in Belgium on Saturday.
BTW - if you have seen Red Dwarf, there is one expression that fits exactly on Marco: "What a guy!" Wink

It was a pitty that Griz was Anita again - I suppose that she is some kind of "default" Grizabella and the rest of them appears on special occasions Rolling Eyes The same about Tugger - I saw Stanley Burleson in Amsterdam and he was really very cool - but Gino had improved since last October too. Mark John Richardson as Dr. Diavolo - brilliant! I saw Marcel Postma as Diavolo in Amsterdam and it was quite disappointing Rolling Eyes

I'll add complete cast lists, so you can check which roles were swinged:

Thank you! I went on Sunday so I was wondering if the cast was much different on Fri and Sat. It wasn't, apart from Abelkouw and Deuteromium. How was Tommie as Abel?

All Grizabellas are scheduled to a couple of cities, Anita does go on a lot but I think you've just been unlucky to catch her a few times. I've had a different Griza each time I went, but I usually don't see it more than once at the same theatre.
If you're seeing it again you should check the performers' sites if you want to see a specific person, you should be able to find it out that way.

Gino Emnes has been away for a while to perform in Germany, so Marijn Brouwers has done a lot of shows as Tugger. Stanley Burleson performed in Amsterdam only.
René van Kooten was supposed to take over in May as principal Tugger, but he broke his foot during a show as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast (Antwerp).Neutral

Mark John Richardson really is brilliant. A shame you caught Marcel P. as Diavolo, he isn't well liked over here in any of his roles. Joao Paulo de Almeida has gotten great reviews as Diavolo and I liked Andres Perez Lopez myself, though he may portray him a bit too immature. Or maybe he was just a bit hyper that day.Wink

PS: did you get a brochure or did you already have one? There have been a few cast changes and the brochures have inserts but if you ask kindly they'll give you the insert for free.

PPS: you planning to see it again before it closes?

Wow! Thanks for comprehensive information about Dutch cast members Applause
Unfortunately I can't say exactly how was Tommie as Abel, because I didn't pay much attention to him... Abelkouw is not exactly my favourite character. Besides I had my eyes full of one kitten only Embarassed Laughing

I got the brochure on my first visit in October in Rotterdam, than in Amsterdam I got Stanley Burleson's insert. Here I saw that there is new insert with new cast members, but I forgot to ask for one Confused

Although I would really love to see Veerle once more, I don't think that I shall go to see the show again. The only possible date is that in Breda, but their site doesn't show which tickets did you buy, only the price level Sad And I don't want to buy ticket without knowin the exact seat. (BTW - it doesn't seem that there are any cheap hostels in Breda Confused )

Stage Entertainment's Topticketline shows you the exact seat number, but you're better off directly calling them or the Chassé Theatre in Breda; as that way you can get much better seats.
As for hostels, Breda is a reasonably big city so there should be some cheaper ones. I think close to the train station is a youth hostel which may have cheap private rooms.

And yeah, I know what you mean about focusing on a performer. I hate it when they notice and start playing to that. Laughing

PS: did you know Veerle's going onto Les Misérables after Cats? It's opening in Rotterdam next year, with previews in Hoorn. After Rotterdam it's supposed to go on a national tour.
I'm not sure what she'll be playing, it's probably an ensemble or swing position.

Only the Stage's number is from NL only and AFAIK they don't have Czech Republic in the list of the countries available during the registration. But you're right that it might be the best to call directly to the theatre (hoping that they won't lose the reservation Rolling Eyes)

Yeah, I've heard about it and my backup plan was to go there to say "hello" to her, even if I don't like LesMis as much as Cats Smile

BTW - In Rotterdam I was really surprised that the coach bus which picked up actors after the show was heading to Amsterdam Shocked It would be interesting to know whether they're traveling to Amster each day from other cities too... (or Rotterdam is the only awful city in which nobody wants to live Smile )

OF COURSE! I had the same trouble with calling a Belgian ticketing agency from Holland. I'm afraid I don't know their number for calling from abroad.

Actually you can; select 'overig...' and type in 'Czech Republic' in the box saying 'Overig:'.

('overig' means 'other')

It depends on the distance from the theatre to Amsterdam and close by cities, if it's too far they'll stay in a hotel. From Rotterdam to Amsterdam would be just over an hour by coach, so I guess that's reasonable.
Jemima57

Awww you get to see Veerle as Sylvani, you're so lucky ! Did you prefer her performance rather than the ones from Cindy Belliot ?
milamber_alw

Jemima57 Arrow Well, Cindy had clearer voice and IMHO looked more self-confident when she was singing her solos, but I liked Veerle much more. Her interpretation of Jemima was fantastic. She really moves as a real cat Wink (and... well... she looks great Smile)
OldDeuteronomy

Where did they play when they were in Amsterdam? Carre Theatre?
Angel-of-Music

Yeah they did, but they didn't perform in the round like in the original Amsterdam production.
OldDeuteronomy

ooh i didn't even know that's how it was done originally there. kinda an ode to the London production. NICE!
