Film vs. Show

Is there any major differances between the movie starring Robert Preston and the musical?

I'm auditioning for the show soon and I just watched the movie to get an idea what the show is about. Is Amayrillis usually played by a little girl? Is Zanneta a big part? Any advice for auditioning?
Sweeney Hyde

They are actually pretty close. There are a few more songs in the show and i believe the song "Being in Love" sung by Marian is replaced with "My White Knight" in the show.

Amaryllis is always played by a little girl. It's not Amaryllis if it's not a little girl. I'd say max age for Amaryllis is 12, and only then if the actress in question looks and sounds very juvenile.

Zaneeta isn't a "big" part, more like a cameo, but very fun! She has the best lines, IMO.

One of my favorite lines in musical theatre. Laughing

I do love the movie and I agree with Sweeney that it is much like the musical.

I just watched the movie yesterday to get an idea of my character....cause I have the part of Zaneeta. Just two questions:

1. Do Zaneeta and Tommy kiss in the play?
2. Does Zaneeta have more lines in the play or the movie? Or is it about the same?

Amaryllis can only be a little taller, if not the same hieght, as Winthrop(sp?). They are the same age, but she can be taller due to the whole girls mature faster than boys facture. The really little girl, I would say, is Gracie.

And Winthrop should be no older than 12.
13, I think, is PUSHING it. A lot.

Gracie? I've seen Gracies ages 7 to 10, but they've always been REALLY teeny girls.

Ok then, Amaryllis is a little girl. I got the idea somehow when I heard that she's crushing on Winthrop that she was older so it was a shock to see a little girl.

During the 4th of July meeting, the Mayor mentions some group the something girls. What are they? I was confused.

The Watonyee girls!! (Or however you spell it.)

They're like, Native American Wannabe Girl Scouts... They dress up like Native Americans, chant some Native American-sounding nonsense, and do a little dance, one of them (usually Amaryllis) holding a rifle.

They are led by Eulalie Shinn. Amaryllis, Zaneeta, younger chorus girls and even Gracie may be involved.

It's hilarious Laughing
ConverseSneaker

Yeah that's it! Was the meeting the only time they are seen?
metaphor17

Yep.

New questions! How old is Gracie? She's about 6, right? And how much does Zaneeta sing? Any solos, or just chorus. I know she's a tradionally a dance role.
