Actually, I was thinking about this, and while it may work, I think one would have to alter the story drastically in order for the gender change to make sense. Y'know what I mean?
However, I am thinking of designing the Emcee's outfit so it's fit for a female. It would be rather fun to create, I think [then again, I love designing interesting concepts and what not].

Before anyone else disagrees, don't be so quick to say no on the idea, as any Cabaret fan will remember the 1970 Vienna cast's original Emcee was a female! Her name was Blanche Aubrey and they didn't even alter a single thing, not even for gender
And if you don't believe me check the Cabaret 1966 OBC's CD booklet!

I think it would work fine. It adds to the sexuality and decadence of the piece. Think of how interesting "Two Ladies" could be.

Plus the Emcee's dancing could be more flexible, cuz womend dancers can do so much more than a man could!l lol!

I've seen it and ....doesn't work as well as a man.

the only time i can see it working is if the woman playing the role were very manly. we have an excellent dancer /actress in the area who is often mistaken for a man she evwen played a few male rolesi n a drag show . if you keep the role sexually ambiguous it would work.

^ Exactly!
I'm not doubting a woman could do it, but they would either have to have a manly appearance or wear make-up to make themselves look manlier.
The costuming wouldn't be an issue, if you were going by the original production and not the revival (of course, that'd be more fun, what with the straps and all).
