Favorite SongI was just curious about what song in Miss Saigon speaks to you the most. I love all of the songs, but know my favorites would definitely tie between "I'd Give My Life For You" and "I Still Believe." I love the message of "I'd Give My Life For You." It is one of the most powerful songs I've heard in my life. At the same time, "I Still Believe" is also powerful and has a great melody. The Lea Salonga-Ruthie Henshall rendition of it is absolutely amazing. My favorite melody would have to go to "Please", despite the fact it's mainly a dialogue song and doesn't really work out of context. I also am a huge fan of "Her Or Me" (which you may know as "Now That I've Seen Her"). I hate the "Now That I've Seen Her" lyrics and much prefer the ones performed on the London Cast Album. |

I know this is unoriginal, but I really love Sun and Moon. It is such a sweet song. The orchestrasions give me goosebumps sometimes honestly. It is a beautiful song too. So, I mean I also love Now That I've Seen Her, love the lyrics to that, it really grasps me every time I listen to it, but Sun and Moon has to win.. In My opinion, it is one of the greatest love songs on Broadway.

"I'd Give My Life For You" all the way.
It has some of the most heart wrenching orchestrations. Those alone tell a story. |

Yeh, tis also a good song. My favorites like I said before, are Sun and Moon, and Now That I've Seen Her.

What Is This Feeling, what lyrics do you like better for "Now That I've Seen Her"? The original London cast lyrics ("Her Or Me") or the other lyrics? I personally adore the "Her Or Me" lyrics but can't stand the "Now That I've Seen Her" ones.
Also, I have a really stupid question. What's the paper dragons section? Is it what is on the OLC recording as "The Morning of the Dragon" or is it something else? |
||
| What Is This Feeling? |
Wait... huh, Her Or Me? I have the OLC recording, and it specifically says Now That I've Seen Her
the one that starts off, ..... There Are Days... |
||
| Eponine93 |
Yeah thats the one I like, the one on the OLC. The one I have in sheet music has TERRIBLE lyrics.

I love Sun and Moon and id give my life for you but in the end i chose sun and moon!x
| What Is This Feeling? |
I know, even though it is almost like everyone's favorite song, but still, it is amazing and sweet.

Sun and Moon for me. | ||

I can't belive you didn't include the Fall of Saigon, that's the most powerful song in the entire show.
| What Is This Feeling? |
Yeh, that song is pretty friggen amazing as well. Very emotional and powerful too.

Why god why is my favorite song. I'm not the biggest fan of miss saigon but i love that song so much. Except not with the guy singing it on the OBC.
| What Is This Feeling? |
Oh, I can't stand Why God, Why? In fact it is my least favorite song. I don't like the guy who plays Chris on the OLC recording, he is indeed annoying.
| shakalakababy |
yeah i meant to say OLC. he is very very annoying. But the guy who sings "why god why?" on the best of the musicals: solid gold collection is amazing and that was the first time i heard that song prompting me to buy miss saigon. but yeah i have no idea what production he was from or anything

Simon Bowman (OLC Chris) isn't THAT bad. He's just not that good either. Same for Peter Polycarpou (OLC John). Johnathan Pryce is quite good, which makes it a shame that I hate his character. I wasn't too crazy about Claire Moore (Ellen), either. Liked her at first and then I saw a clip of Lea and Ruthie's "I Still Believe." Suddenly, she wasn't as good.
Anyway... I have mixed feelings about Why God. It's a good concept for a song, good lyrics, good everything. I think it's in the wrong part of the show, though. It would be more interesting if Kim sang it before she shot herself. Also, it's kind of forgettable. In another show, it would be the big ballady number but it's forgotten after "Sun and Moon" and the whole process of Kim and Chris falling in love. I never remember it. I usually make a point to skip Kim's nightmare: The Fall of Saigon because it's so depressing. One time, though, I was listening to it, humming along to Kim and Chris's "Please..." part and it took me several days to figure out where the melody was from. Why God, Why, is just SO forgettable. Although I really like the fast part, that starts at "When I went back home no one talked of the war..." The words "home" and "war" reminds me a lot of Iraq. |

Favourite SOngI am probably in a minority here but it's either Bui-Doi or The Last Night Of The World and I am leaning toward the Last Night Of The World.Cheers Les |

^ You are definitely not in the minority with liking Bui-Doi. Bui-Doi is one of those showtunes that could have honestly had an impact on the world. If it had been written sooner, perhaps during the Vietnam War, it would probably be well known.
Last Night of the World? Why? |

Last Night Of The World
I don't know I just really like the song. It really stood out when I first heard Miss Saigon. Cheers Les |

Yeah, I understand what you mean about it just standing out. Some songs do that. It's a pretty song, I just think there are prettier songs in the show, and much prettier love songs out there in other shows. If you like it, go on youtube and search "Here On This Night- The Pirate Queen." I wanted to talk about that song because parts of it really remind me of "Last Night of the World."
I happen to like Here On This Night better, but that's just me. |

Bui Doi. It's beautiful, powerful, everything. Last night I went to see the show and they showed all these video clips of Children in war-torn Vietnam. It was heart-wrenching.

i love Sun and Moon, Last Night of the World, Her or Me and I'd give my life for you but i was shocked yesterday because I was singing "the confrontation" and "this is the hour" when Im at school |

Oh my! That is funny Dianne! I get caught singing Miss Saigon and other shows in places and public setting occasionally too. Haha! Wouldn't it be just great if you started singing like Sun and Moon and then some person you didn't know joined in with you! Lol, it woud be so awesome.

By far my favorite song is The American Dream! Highly comical. The Engineer is singing about all these rumors and visions he has of America and how he will be complete when he makes it there!
By the way I have never seen this show before, but I am currently in a production of it at Ohlone College Oh and I agree with happyguava and others Bui Doi is Beautiful and powerful. It sends a message my heart that the cost of my live is imeasueable, since there are people who never are given the chance to live life like I do. This kind of message ties in and out of the whole show: everyone wants to live in America The whole show is filled with winner after winner, as far as songs go. I love Miss Saigon! |

Now That I've Seen Her. Definitely.

I am going to say, since i feel it deserves some recognition that one of my favorite songs would have to be the whole Back in town/Thuy's Death/You will not touch him part.
The raw emotion in that whole part is incredible Anyone agree? |
||

I do! haha. I love that whole sequence. My favourite song would be Sun and Moon, but I'm a little obsessed with "Too much for one heart"...such a pity they cut it |
