Favorite song/why?

Pick one and tell us why you love it!

I personally love Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat. In all the productions I've seen/done of this show, this song always has the most energy. Aaaand, it's so darn CATCHY!
broadwaybaby246

i love adelaides lament... its just such a great song. I love the whiny annoying girl reading a book about why her fiance is giving her a cold thing... so unnecessary but awesome
Frostbunny2

I love all the songs from "Guys & Dolls" this is why:

"My time of day / I've never been in love before" because I'm an old fashioned romantic at heart!

"Sit down your rockin' the boat" - because it's such a catchy tune!

"Take back your mink" - i sing it when I'm in drama queen mode !

"Luck be a lady" - I just love it!

Very Happy
theaterforme

"My Time of Day"-awesome tune and just beautiful to listen to; our Sky sang it wonderfully. During this song I would always be rushing to change down in the dressing room, and this would come over the monitor and help me to calm down and breathe. Besides-I'm just a little too sentimental for my own good at times.
norayouadora

I just love "Adelaide's Lament"--something about the switching back and forth from minor and major and allthewhile whining and wiping her nose... Just priceless! Mr. Green Plus, this is one of my absolute favorite songs to sing. Hehe.
MagPie

I really like the oldest established permanent floating crap game in new york.... such a great song

i love that one too! =]

I'm totally in love with "Marry the Man Today." I'm not even sure why!
Anita4ever

I LOVE "Marry the Man Today." In fact, it's my favorite song in all of musical theatre. It has witty lyrics, cool accompaniment, and boy does it speak the truth about men! Razz
Jeronemy

"Marry the man today and save the fist for after!" I love that line sooo much!
Ep-Griz-Reno

I've played Adelaide twice (6th grade and Freshman year) and ironically enough, my personal favorite is "If I were a Bell"...funny how things work out...lol =D
OneSongGlory

I really don't like any of the G&D songs much, but when I did it our Adelaide and Sarah were both fantastic, and I'd come in right after Marry the Man Today and so I'd go up at the beginning of the scene to watch it for every performance. Other than that.. meh, maybeeee The Oldest Established just because I like harmonies, or the title song was always fun to sing..
NoOneMournsTheWicked

My Time of Day because I find it relaxing.

I'll Know because I like singing it.

If I Were A Bell because I got my first kiss during that song.

So there.

Nope. It was supposed to be a peck. It was a lot more than that. I was quite shocked by it...so were my parents, who were sitting third row center.
broadwaybaby124

A Bushel and a Peck!
haha I just love that song.
It's really fun to sing too.

Aww that's so adorable!!! Did you guys end up dating???? I wish I could kiss someone I like on stage......the only guys I end up kissing on stage are either just close friends (which makes it awkward).....or gay (which also...is awkward! Haha...I get over it though =D )

Nope. I wish. He likes my best friend...and another girl. We were quite awkward with one another for a while, but now we're good friends.
Cody

The best song in the entire musical has GOT to be Sit Down You're Rockin' The Boat! It has always been my favorite. I was Nicely when my highschool performed it and it was amazing. I got to move around so much and stand on table and desks and stuff. It was my time to shine baby, and I soaked it all up! It was a blast!

I'm sorry....=/....at least it isn't awkward anymore! How old were you when you did the show??
MsDivaKate

I love Marry The Man Today just because our Adelaide and Sarah were so amazing and I loved hearing them together on this song.

However I was in the pit for this show, community production, and my favorite song to play was Guys and Dolls and the curtain music which is mostly just a repeat of Guys and Dolls, just because the clarinet part is pretty rockin' on it lol

i love the opening song ( im not sure what its called but its the first song), adelaids lament and luck be a lady. i went to see a show of it a fornight ago cos some of my friends were in it. ive had the opening song and adelaids lament in my head ever since!!!!
audreydarling

my favorite would have to be "Sue Me" but I also love "Adelaide's Lament" and "If I were a Bell" but sue me is ultimate..because it was so much fun to perform..I was Adelaide and the guy who played Nathan opposite me is one of the best Actors I know...and noonemournsthewicked..I can relate to you..becouse I got my first kiss during "sue me"..lol..but everyone except me knew about it. Then the next show was Fiddler..and I played Tzeitel and got kissed by Motel during "Miracle of Miracles" also by a very talented actor(a different one)..so I say yay for stage kisses..lol!

What's sad is...it means nothing to me now. I'm sort of in that weird place between more than friend and just friends with a friend of his, and he's in the same place with my best friend. Times sure have changed since...June.

...Now it's March...just a note. Me and the 'friend of his' have been dating for eight months. We got engaged a month ago.
phantomphan85

Well, I like all of them, but I think my favourites are probably "My Time of Day/I've Never Been in Love Before" and "Marry the Man Today".
Salome

I always loved

More I Cannot Wish You.

and

My Time of Day
Helena2

I really like "More I Cannot Wish You", the melody and words are so nice. also "Fugue for Tinhorns", I like the interplay of the various lines of music.
jonj120893

I love

Bushel and A Peck- Our Adelaide is really good at belting this one

Adelaide's Lament- Our Adelaide is really good, and she gets to throw tissues around, and be lovely

If I Were A Bell- Our Sarah is not much of a belter, as this song usually is belted, but she stills acts it beautifully

I've Never Been In Love Before- This song is SOOO cheesy, but still its super cute

Sit Down You're Rocking Boat- Our Nicely has this nasal character voice...and this is the only song I sing in...and it's fun to sing!
BoundBySound

Oldest Established: It's so catchy!!

Sue Me: This was the best song for both Nathan & Adelaide.

Siddown You're Rockin' the Boat: It's the biggest number in the show.

I hate to pick an arguement with you, Salome (because I know I'm going down!) but those are the only two songs in Guys and Dolls, besides Follow the Fold, that I cannot stand. I find them very boring.

I adore Adelaide's Lament and Sue Me.
dwarves r very upsetting

I love "Sue Me". I especially love Frank Sinatra singing it. It is such a crooner song, he's my favorite crooner.
phantomphan85

Yeah, he sings that song well, but he should have been Sky in the movie instead of Nathan.

Off-topic, sorry.
AllThatJazz777

If I Were a Bell

Take Back Your Mink

Sue Me

Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat

Marry the Man Today
BroadwayDoll

Fav. song....

My favorite song from the Movie is "Sue me, sue me" but from the play...... I like "Marry the Man Today" an "Fugue of Tinhorns".
shakalakababy

my all time favorite is Luck Be A Lady

after that probably sit down your rockin the boat
puckinnichild

Well 99.9% of all the songs were incredibly boring to play, since it's mostly half notes and whole notes, so I'm going against the grain and saying that two of the instrumentals were my favs: Havana and Crapshooter's Ballet. What? I'm a musician Razz
Greenified67

Oldest Established- because it's sooo typical musical theatre. Lets randomly start singing!
Bushel and a Peck- because we had a lot of fun in the audience of the Hot Box. (I was a gambler's moll)
Luck Be A Lady- classic.
Rocking the Boat- our Nicley was amazing!
lilmissgiggles42

I love belting "If I Were A Bell" (apparently I do it much better than the other girl playing Sarah - who's classically trained) Very Happy

"I've Never Been in Love Before" because it's a really sweet song and I love the end harmony. Mr. Green

I find "A Bushel and A Peck" horribly annoying as it ALWAYS gets in my head, because it's too addictive for it's own good. Wink

they are the 2 truest songs in the show. just listen to Arvide's words to his granddaughter. its touching..its real. plus its reminicent of old irish ballads.

My Time of Day expresses Sky's inmost feelings in a way only Franlk Loesser could write it..
"when the smell of the rainwashed pavement comes up clean and crisp and cold..and the streetlamp light fills the gutter with gold. thats my time of day".
beautiful and poetic.
star2ballie

I LOVE More I Cannot Wish You. Ahhh It's so beautiful!
Salome

when I was stuck playing Sarah in college..our Arvide was a retired Professor at the school. every night when he sang that to me i got all choked up.
