Not all of Sondheim's shows have been commercial successes. The four main ones that come to my mind that weren't big hits are The Frogs, Anyone Can Whistle, Merrily We Roll Along, and Bounce.

From what I've heard, I'd say Anyone Can Whistle.

Won't "flop" include most of Sondheim's shows if the definition is "commercial success"?

I think maybe Do I Hear A Waltz? also oght to be included in the list. I also think that DIHAW might be the best Sondheim flop, while MWRA makes me the most excited and ACW is dearest to my heart.

Of those, I've only heard The Frogs (don't kill me) but I loved it.

I love Merrily!

I've listened to The Frogs once and Evening Primose once, and I didn't get excited about either. I'll dig it up later and give it another listen. Sondheim usually sounds better for me the second time around.

Most of SOndheims shows were hits..recoupng their initial investments..but even those that didnt..or closed after few shows are still performed world wide..Sondheim's "flops" are still brilliant works.
