Favorite Regional Theaters?

Said question in post. Any favorites in your city, or in general? What productions did you enjoy, and why?

For me: The Guthrie. I saw A Midsummer Night's Dream there recently, and it was fantastic. I enjoyed the costuming a lot...(will try to scan in newspaper article sometime...)
I've also seen Peer Gynt, Jane Eyre, The Home Place, and Pen at The Guthrie.

I also like Theater De La Jeune Lune.

psh... i kinda adore the guthrie and i've never seen anything there. by reputation alone, i am dying to work for them or see something there.

Marriott Lincolnshire by FAR for musicals. Their staging is amazing, and it's theatre in the round.

Ahaha. Chev.

I want to see the NC Shakespeare's production of Much Ado this fall. They usually put on really good productions.

seriously. ain't never gonna happen. however, an old director of mine is now an associate artistic director there, I believe? So at least he may SEE me for an audition. Don't mean nothin's gonna come of it...

meh. anyway.

I know there are several top notch regional theatre companies, but I only patronize the ones in my area. Of those PCPA (Pacific Coservatory for the Performing Arts) is my favorite. I especially enjoy their outdoor venue in Solvang. The quality of their shows is generally good, and the experience is always fun. I usually either buy season tickets or at least see several of their shows each year.

I'm not trying to say you have to have seen something somewhere to like the theater...and I'm not trying to brag about it either, sorry if it came off like that.
It's my dream to perform on a Guthrie stage also, but I highly doubt it. (I'm guessing you meant acting MaryMag?) From what I remember, for most of the shows they do they already have people in mind to do it. I know someone who worked their way up into equity and caught their attention in the process...but...yeah.

hm.... Musicals.net members take a group tour to different theaters...that might be fun. (random idea that just came to mind.)

Pioneer Theatre is the best one in the city, and right underneath it in the same building is Babcock Theatre, where I've performed a bunch of shows, and therefore has sentimentality. We also have the Cedar City Shakespeare Festival which is well renowned, but I don't get down there as often as I'd like to.

wow I know CRAPLOADS of peeps who have worked Pioneer. Our B & tB costumes were there for 2 yrs before AL Shake stopped renting them out.

Al Shake and Pioneer kinda have an agreement - the designers go back and forth between the two - so lots of actors get recommended for both alone the way.

That's cool. Yeah, it's got a really good program, I'd like to audition for their shows soon if I get a chance...

by the way, do you have to go to NY to audition for AL Shakespeare again? Was browsing actors equity and saw the eq production of Les Mis I auditioned for is auditioning out in NY like within days of Alabama Shakespeare. So if you'd be out there, and you were interested, thought I'd pass the info along. Have I ever mentioned I think you'd make a fantastic Fantine?
Chevstriss

Did you see Lend Me a Tenor there last yr? It's definately in the works to go to Bwy. Sutton is interested in playing Maggie. Of course all my friends in the cast will be replaced w/ "names" if that happens. But they will get large "contract buy out first refusal" checks.

no I don't audition for Al Shake anymore - If they want me to read for something they let me know. and there is nothing for me this yr at all.

I'm about 20 yrs too old for Fantine, and that's a "stars only" role anyway as far as the regionals are concerned. Stars being anyone who has been on Bwy or a soap.

That's disappointing. I saw one woman play Fantine who was a hot 50 year old, so I guess casting her older only happens once in a blue moon. But she was glorious.

Up here, it's all about the Stratford Festival and Shaw Festival. (Ontario biggies. Really, the Canadian biggies.)

Montreal's English theatre scene is sadly dying. There remain only a couple of big pro theatres (Centaur and Saidye Bronfman), but there are zillions of small theatre companies that are trying to establish themselves in order to get $$ out of Canada Council

....for which our genius of a Prime Minister has majorly slashed the budget.

yes...I sing the praises of Stratford...but you guys already knew that XD
