Favorite R&H OvertureWhich Rodgers and Hammestein overture is your favorite, and why? Note that State Fair and Sound of Music lack overtures, so I am not including them on this poll (neither does Carousel, but it has the waltz, which I'm counting as an overture).

I love the Carusel waltz, definately my favorite..... though (like Salome) I really find the overture to The King and I to be awesome too!

I wonder if I made a mistake by including the Carousel waltz as a choice on this poll. It seems like everybody is going to vote for that one. I would have too, except I was tired of Carousel getting all the votes, so I voted for South Pacific instead (easily my second favorite of the R&H overtures).

I've gone for South Pacific mainly because it's the one I remember hearing first and the show had a great impact on me when I first heard it as a kid.
I was pedantic and decided to exclude Carousel on the grounds that isn't an overture - but it's really grand.
Thanks for inspiring me tho' to dig out the other recordings and listen again

I voted for Carousel Waltz but I also love the overture for Oklahoma.
I really like South Pacific's but it is so LONG. or at least it seems to be.

The Carousel Waltz is technically the prologue to the musical...
But yeah...it totally RULES!
