Favorite Emcee(s)I was looking around and didn't see this topic.
Who's your favorite? Or favorites, in this case.
Considering I've never seen Alan Cumming, Neil Patrick Harris, Adam Pascal or Raul Esparza on Broadway, it's hard to compare performances (other than what I've seen on YouTube).
So, that being said, my favorite is Jon Peterson. I think he's just brilliant in the role. We did Cabaret this summer at the Ogunquit Playhouse and he was our Emcee.
Of course, I also love Joel Grey too.

Yep!
A rather dark picture of our set. I took it with a flash camera, so it could've come out better.
A picture of Jon (our Emcee) and me.

Joel and Alan hands down.

I find Alan to be a bit annoying on the cast recording, but I do like his rendition of "I Don't Care Much".

Alan Cumming is of course wonderful. when i saw the show live here in MI, there was a guy named Christopher Sloan. not sure if it was professional, or amature. the program said Tams Whitmark, so i think thats amature. it seemed to follow the revival version, though.

I have to say that going on recordings, I love Barry Dennen (OLC 6 , he was my inspiration. I also love Joel Grey, although I'm not a fan of the film.

My favorite is Joel Grey first and formost. I feel that no one plays the character like Joel anymore, going with a more risque type of Cabaret, more like the recent revivals. However, Alan's is a second for me because he did it so differently and it fit the revival mood so well.

Here's my deal with Alan;
I don't really like him as a person, however, I think he is a brilliant performer, and to be perfectly honest, his take on the Emcee is quite possibly one of the most interesting interpertations.
While I did not see him in the '98 revival [I was 10 then - so my parents didn't take me to see it], I did watch the 1993 Donmar production DVD that the theatre accquired over the summer. And even though he has his off-putting moments, there is no doubt he gives the role a certain depth and intrigue. What I admire about his performance is that he is able to shift into these different people -- the "master of ceremonies", a drug addict, the Berliner who is coming face-to-face with Nazism...he captures all these personalities and blends them together wonderfully. I personally believe his "I Don't Care Much" is one of the most haunting renditions ever sung.
Also -- I reccommend that everyone sees Reefer Madness [the musical movie]. He is FANTASTIC in it.
So yes, that's my little opinion on Mr. Cumming.

I'd definitely pick Alan as the best. I'm not a HUGE fan of his voice, but his acting is what really made the character for me.

The other thing about Alan (that I forgot to mention in my overall thoughts of him) is that he has amazing features, and that makes him fun to draw. I couldn't tell you the number of times I've tried sketching out little cartoon versions of him.
Fabian Richard is quickly becoming my favorite. I love his voice, and his "I Don't Care Much" is gorgeous.

definetly Joel Grey, his performance and voice are just incredible. I like Alan but I'm not crazy about his version of "I Don't Care Much," I prefer Adam Pascal's version
