Favorite 'Cut' Songs? As we know, not every song that gets written for the show remains in it, or in every production. In the case of Sondheim, there was alot of material that was cut from productions. What are some of your favorites?Mine are: The Hills of Tomorrow (from Merrily We Roll Along) Happily Ever After (from Company) There Won't Be Trumpets (from Anyone Can Whistle) The alternate version of With So Little To Be Sure Of (from Anyone Can Whistle) The Judge's Johanna (from Sweeney Todd) |

Favourite 'Cut' SongsMy favourite cut songs:1. "Happily Ever After", cut from Company 2. "Little White House"/"Who Could Be Blue?" cut from Follies 3. "Bang", cut from A Little Night Music 3. "All Things Bright and Beautiful", cut from Follies 4. "Can That Boy Foxtrot?", cut from Follies 5. "There Won't Be Trumpets", cut from Anyone Can Whistle 6. "It Wasn't Meant to Happen", cut from Follies My absolute favourite of these is "Happily Ever After", which is a phenomenal song to perform. It really is one of those iconic Sondheim songs that is like a play in itself. Later days David |

I've never heard "Happily Ever After" does anyone know where I can get it? | ||||

It's in the show 'Marry Me a Little,' and on its respective recording.
If you want sheet music, it's in 'The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology, Baritone/Bass, Volume 3.' The replacement of that song with 'Being Alive' really solidifies Bobby as a tenor and not as a baritone. |

Mea Culpa (Judge's Johanna) from Sweeney Todd
^ One production I saw of Sweeney actually had this number in the show. So when I bought the OBCR and it was on there I had no idea it had been cut during the Broadway production's previews. That is, until MdN taught me better, of course. |

MMAL / Songs / Keys
The cast recording of Marry Me a Little is an abomination. Poor to awful performances, incorrect tempi, and the songs are in a different order than they are in the show! Thank goodness there are other places to hear most of the songs on that recording. The sheet music for "Happily Ever After" is also in available in All Sondheim Vol. III.
Until you get to a revival where they drop all the keys for someone like Boyd Gaines. Later days David |

That was the revival where they re-instated 'Marry Me A Little,' right? Well, that song is most certainly a baritone song.
Weird thing is, they lower the key to accommodate a baritone, then they put in 'Marry Me A Little' and he doesn't hit the low Gs... weird. |

Well unless you use Boyd Gaines' lower transpositions from the 95 revival score I wish we had a Happily Ever After with the Tunick orchestrations. Who could be Blue is heaven. I also love Bang! Uptown Downtown, |

Mea Culpa from Sweeney Todd i believe is kept out of shows not because it isnt a great song... just the staging that goes with it...
When i understudied for Jo in Sweeney I had to sit on a sofa 5 feet from Turpin as he sang, half naked, and whipped himself. Yes it was the creepiest thing i'v ever had to sit through and act like nothing was happening in my own happy little world... |
