Favorite Cast Recording

just as it says... there have been many recordings of this score which do you like best and why?
Salome

I haven't voted because there are some bits of the LuPone recording that I love, and some bits of the revival with Sally Anne Triplett that I love, and I can't decide between the two! Interestingly, I heard some sections of a 1989 Australian cast recording (1987 version) today, and what I heard I really liked. I'll withhold further opinions until I've heard it all though....

I love everything about the LuPone recording...cept the chick that sings "Buddie Beware". Is it better on the later recordings?
Salome

Lida Hart was amazxing as Erma. why dont you like her??

years later she was Mazzeppa in the tv Gypsy, and she created the role of Miss Baltimore Crabs in Hairspray.

Like the Lupone version best
I also have a studio recording with Luois Gold and Greg Edelman, but it's not so great
Salome

nick.. have you hard all the recording i listed. the 87 is great but there are some absolutely must have other albums out there.
DontDoSadnessxx

im a huge 87 fan.
but i must say, eileen rodgers "take me back to manhattan" wins my heart =]
nabla

Heard selections from all except the 36 version
The 60's version of the show just annoys me, lol, it's better without Take Me Back to Manhattan and Heaven Hop

No, she's good, but if I'm going to listen to that song, I'd rather a beltier, more aweing recording of it. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I want it sung "pretty" lol. I know that sounds silly, but one can still do a character voice and keep it fierce... she's not fierce unfortunately. As for her acting and interpretation, I can't argue that as I didn't see the production (I wasn't even born yet), but she sounds like a good Erma. I just wish she had a more powerhouse voice for it.

well neither of those songs or lets step out, lets misbehave, its delovely, and freindship were originally from Anything Goes.
nabla

I know, but the others i think add to the show, taking out Take me Back to Manhattan and Heaven Hop for the 87 version was a good idea i think, they should have left Let's Misbehave in though
Salome

Tke em Back to Mnahattan adds so much more THAN Lets step out.

but Lets misbehave as good as it is wouldnt work since Gypsy in Me is there.
fjays

I like
-Take me back to Manhatten
-Let's misbehave

I don't like
-Heaven Hop
-Let's step out.

Sooooooooooooooooooo I'm still gonna have to go with the 87 recording.
The voices are so annoying on the 60's one. Blarg!
Salome

Hal Linden,Mickey Deems,Eileen Rodgers and Kenneth Mars arent annoying they are perfect sounding for their roles. the 87 is still better but they are not schleps at all.

but fiona did you hear any of the other recordings?
